Box Score TURLOCK — For the second time in as many games, the Cal State Stanislaus pitching staff shutout its opponents. This time the victim was Fresno Pacific as the Warriors won a non-conference game, 4-0, Tuesday afternoon.
First-time starter
Keith McDaniels threw six strong innings and gave up just one hit in the victory as the Warriors won their fifth straight game to improve to 20-14 overall. Three other Stanislaus pitchers --
David Snapp,
Shay Maltese, and
Anthony Gotelli -- combined to give up just one hit in the final three innings to preserve the win.
The five-game winning streak will be a great momentum for the Warriors as they hit the road to take on Cal Poly Pomona for a four-game CCAA set starting on Friday.
In Tuesday's game against the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (21-19),
Ross Gonsalves' two-run double in the fourth broke open a scoreless game. He scored
Eli Davis, who ledoff the inning with a single, and
Justin Manci who drew a walk.
Michael Turay scored in the sixth on a Manci fly ball after leading off with a triple. Gonsalves scored in the eighth on a FPU error to account for the Stanislaus offense, led by Davis and
Colton Beatty each with two hits.
McDaniels, who has been used as a reliever, got the spot-start on Tuesday and he responded with a great outing. He walked four and struck out four while keeping FPU at bay in the second inning getting out of a bases loaded jam with a strikeout.
Snapp, who won in his first appearance on Friday against Academy of Art, pitched a one-hit seventh. Maltese and Gotelli threw the final two innings without giving up a hit.
Saturday night against Academy of Art, three different Warriors combined for a seven-inning three-hit shutout in a 9-0 win. These two shutouts are the team's firsts this season.
