CHICO — Led by a strong showing by the sprinters, the Cal State Stanislaus women's track and field team raced to a second place team finish at the Chico Twilight late Saturday night.
The Warriors scored 149 points to finish second behind host Chico State (201.33) in the 13-team field.
Both the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams won their races. In the 4x100,
Adriana Blanco,
Chavariana Ryan,
Derrhea McLiechey and
Misha Strong raced around the track in 47.83 seconds, which is a season best. Then the 4x400 meter relay team closed out the night with a 3:49.71 for the victory. The 4x400 team was consisted of
Christina Matthews, McLiechey, Strong and Ryan.
The women's team also got wins from
Katie Busi in the hammer throw. She improved her provisional qualifying mark to 166-07 on Saturday.
Sian Morgan and
Kristy Long both cleared 11-10 in the pole vault with Long soaring to a new career-best and a provisional qualifying height.
Another victor was
Courtney Anderson as she finished first in the 1500-meter run in 4:36.12. Four other Warriors also finished in the top eighth in the event.
Nyesa Enakaya was the co-winner in the long jump with a 18-5, tying Humboldt State's Brittainy Chown.
Strong, Blanco and Ryan also finished in the top six in the 100-meter dash with the fastest Warrior being Strong, clocking 12.61 to finish second. McLiechey (25.53) and Strong (25.55) were second and third in the 200-meter dash. Matthew ran a 58.52 to place second in the 400-meter run.
Other highlights include
Aman Hundal with a time of 2:21.00 to win her section of the 800-meter race, Enakaya with a third place showing in the long jump (17-11) to go with a fifth place skip-and-leap of 35-5 3/4 in the triple jump.
