Box Score POMONA — Cal Poly Pomona got another solid performance by one of its starting pitchers and the Warriors weren't able to put together enough hits to score as the Broncos won the series finale, 3-1.
Pomona starter Erick Ruvalcaba tossed a complete game and hung zeros for eight innings as the Broncos improved to 26-14 overall and 18-14 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Ruvalcaba scattered seven hits, struck out eight Warriors and walked one in the win.
Cal State Stanislaus allowed single runs in the first three innings but was able to shut down the CPP offense the rest of the way before falling to 21-17 overall and 14-14 in league play.
Michael Turay led the Warriors with a 2-for-4 day, including an one-out triple in the ninth inning. He scored on a
Andrew Graves ground-out to second to finally put Stanislaus on the scoreboard.
The Warriors did have many scoring chances throughout the game, including runner at third with one out in the sixth. They also had two on in the seventh and eighth innings before Ruvalcaba escaped without any Stanislaus damage.
Keith McDaniels started on the mound and went 3 2/3 inings as he gave up three runs on five hits and was tagged with the loss.
Chris Short allowed just one hit in 3 1/3 innings of shutout work. He was followed by
Shay Maltese, who allowed two hits in the eighth.
Ross Gonsalves went 2-for-4 for the Warriors and
Craig Beevers doubled to chip-in for the Warriors' offense.
