4/28/2012 6:11:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ROHNERT PARK — Behind another great start by Chris Short and a balanced offense from the entire lineup, the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors picked up an important nightcap win for a split against Sonoma State.

After falling 5-3 in a tight first game, the Warriors beat Sonoma State, 8-1, in a pivotal California Collegiate Athletic Association series. Cal State Stanislaus, which secured a winning season, improved to 26-18 overall and 19-15 in the CCAA. Sonoma State is now 20-22, 18-16 CCAA.

Short, the NCBWA West Region pitcher of the week, threw 7 2/3 innings and allowed just one run on six hits to pick up the win. He struck out six and had extended his scoreless streak to 18 1/3 innings before it was snapped in the sixth inning.

Still, Short has now allowed just one run in the last 20 1/3 innings in his last three appearances.

While Short was hanging up zeros, his teammates scratched across runs early, platting single runs in the first and second innings. Back to back one-out singles set up the first scoring play, with SSU catcher's throw to second, attempting to gun-down the trail thief, sailed wide to score lead runner Ross Gonsalves.

In the second inning, Eli Davis singled in Joe Medeiros for a run. The same combination pushed across the third run in the fourth with a single by Davis to right, scoring Medeiros, who had advanced to third on a wild pitch.

Gonsalves drove in two scores with a double in the sixth and the Warriors scored three times in the ninth, highlighted by a Medeiros two-run double to center to put the game away.

With the score at 5-1 in the eighth and two runners on, Anthony Gotelli threw one pitch to get a flyout to center to end the Seawolf threat. Gotelli picked up his third save by getting the final four outs.

Davis, Gonsalves and Medeiros all had two hits and drove in two runs. All nine batters in the Stanislaus lineup all either hit safely in the game or reached base and scored.

In game one, a three-run Sonoma State home run in the second by Justin Serrao and a solo shot by Garrett Gooselaw in the fourth keyed the SSU win.

After the Seawolves chased starter Rafael Vasquez in the fourth, reliever Andrew Graham tossed 4 2/3 shutout innings to keep the Warriors in the game. Graham gave up just three hits in his outing.

Trailing 5-1, the Warriors rallied back with runs in the sixth and ninth innings. In the end, CSUS left nine runners on base.

Craig Beevers and Michael Turay each went 2-for-3 in game one.

The Warriors overcame a draught at a facility that had proved to be difficult to pick up a win for the game two win. Saturday's win was Stanislaus' first in Rohnert Park since 2005 after 16 straight losses at Seawolve Diamond.

The four-game series concludes on Sunday with a doubleheader on Sunday at Warrior Baseball Field. First pitch is at noon.
