SF State opens series with 6-1 win over Stanislaus

3/1/2013 5:39:00 PM

Box Score SAN FRANCISCO — After platting the first run of the game, the Warriors were not able to come around the bases again as San Francisco State opened the series with a 6-1 win.

Skippy Ferreria scored the Warriors' lone run in the first but the Warriors dropped to 5-11 overall and 2-7 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

San Francisco State, which snapped an 8-game skid last Sunday, now found itself with two straight wins. The Gators are now 5-12, 2-7 CCAA.

The four-game set shifts to Turlock on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.

In the first inning, Matt Chaidez reached on an error and moved to second on a single by Ferreria. Pete Pendley then singled to left but Chaidez was tossed out at home. Craig Beevers then drove in Ferreria with a third straight single for the 1-0 lead.

But that would be all of the scoring by the Warriors. In fact, singles in the fourth, fifth and ninth innings were the other three hits on the day for Stanislaus.

At one point, SF State pitchers retired 12 straight Warriors after a leadoff single by Ross Gonsalves in the fifth.
