Stanislaus baseball swept by 13th ranked Wildcats

3/23/2013 9:16:00 PM

Box Score CHICO — This Saturday's doubleheader was completely opposite of last week's twinbill at home as the Warriors were swept by No. 13 Chico State at Nettleton Stadium in Chico.

The Wildcats chased game one starter Rafael Vasquez in the second inning and pounded out 19 hits in a 20-5 win. Chico State (18-5, 11-4 CCAA) then completed the doubleheader sweep with an 8-1 score in the nightcap.

Andrew Graham's much-anticipated follow-up performance to last Saturday's no-hitter was the focus of game two on Saturday. However, Chico State didn't wait long as Eric Angerer led off the Chico first with a double for a three-run opening inning.

Chico State added four runs in the second inning that included three hits off Graham, who finished with the six-inning complete game as he allowed eight runs on 11 hits.

In the first game, Chico State scored in all but one inning (the sixth) and was up 8-0 before Stanislaus scored in the third on a solo home run by Klayton Miller.

Vasquez gave up seven runs on six hits and recorded three outs. Three straight hits and a hit batmen in the second inning ended his outing. A three-run homer in the first by Blake Gibbs kick-started the Wildcat offense.

On the day, Chico tallied 30 hits but with just three doubles and a homer in the twinbill.

Anthony Nicolosi, who entered game one as a pinch hitter in the seventh, went 2-for-2 with a RBI double to lead Stanislaus (7-23, 4-19 CCAA), which had eight hits. Skippy Ferreria had two of the team's eight hits in the second game.

The series concludes on Sunday with first pitch at 11 a.m.
