Instead of early practices or workout sessions Wednesday morning, an elite group of Cal State Stanislaus student-athletes were recognized at the inaugural President's Breakfast Honoring our Scholar Athletes in the university's Faculty Development Center.
President (Interim) Joseph Sheley joined faculty members and deans in celebrating the 58 student-athletes for their academic success. Each student-athlete received a scholar athlete certificate from Warrior Athletics, certifying an overall grade-point average of 3.25 or better during their academic careers at Cal State Stanislaus.
"I am proud of each one for your accomplishments," Sheley said during the event. "This sends out a great message to our campus community about the hard work and dedication you put in not only as an athlete, but as a student-athlete."
Sheley, Director of Athletics
Michael Matoso, and faculty athletic representative
John Mayer each emphasized the NCAA Division II "Life in the Balance" platform as a model for student-athletes excelling on the field while maintaining a high academic standard.
Coordinated by athletics academic adviser
Raichelle Grays and Associate Athletics Director
Kim Duyst, the event was attended by nearly 100 people, including Provost James T. Strong and athletics staff and coaches. The audience also included faculty members invited by the student-athletes.
"You were invited here because you made an impact on someone's life here," Matoso told the faculty, "and we thank you for your support."
