Box Score 2 SAN FRANCISCO — The Warriors were not able to get much offense going in the doubleheader on Saturday as they dropped a pair to San Francisco State at Maloney Field.
The Gators scored five unanswered runs to win game one, 5-2, before shutting out Stanislaus, 5-0, on five unearned runs in game two.
Colton Beatty had two hits in each game to finish 4-for-7 on the day and
Marcus Mastrobuoni went 3-for-3 and drove in two scores in the opener to account for most of the Stanislaus offense. The Warriors dropped to 5-5 overall and 1-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Cal State Stanislaus has now lost four straight in San Francisco after beating up on the Gators back on April 21, 2012 when the Warriors won 14-1 and 11-0 at Maloney Field.
The present day Warriors jumped out on top in game one 2-0 in the first inning when Mastrobuoni doubled to left to score two runs with two outs. Beatty and
Brent Hall each singled earlier in the game off SFSU starter Jack Veronin.
But Veronin and reliever Cory Davis would not allow a Stanislaus run the rest of the way. Veronin went eight strong and Davis pitched 1-2-3 ninth for the save.
Martin Gomez was tagged with the loss in his first start as a Warrior. He threw four innings and gave up seven hits.
Dustin Baisdon held SF State in check with four solid innings. He gave up a run on two hits and fanned two batters.
In the nightcap, all five Gator runs were unearned as Stanislaus comitted three errors.
Nick Voumard gave up just four hits in four innings and
David Snapp held SFSU hitless in two innings of work but the Warriors came up short as they were able to plate runners on seven hits.
Ryan Bohnet got the complete game shutout to improve to 2-0 for SF State (7-6, 2-1).
The four-game series concludes on Sunday in Turlock with first pitch at Noon.
