Box Score 2 CHICO —
Melissa Robles homered and four different Warriors doubled as Cal State Stanislaus softball blasted Chico State with a 11-3, five-inning mercy rule win, in the series finale on Saturday.
The victory helped the Warriors avoided the four-game sweep as Chico State won game one on the day, 2-0.
The Warriors, now 6-9 overall and 3-5 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, will be home for two games on Wednesday under the lights at Warrior Softball Field.
For the second straight weekend the Warriors left the final game of the conference series on ultimate high notes — this time with a 11-3 win over Chico State. Last Saturday, Stanislaus ended game four of the set early with a 12-0, five-inning win over Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Two four-run innings helped the Warriors in the nightcap on Saturday as they built a 5-0 lead after 2 1/2 innings. Robles belted her first homerun in the third inning — a two-run shot as part of the four-run inning.
Already up 7-3, Stanislaus scored four runs again in the fifth to put the mercy-rule in effect.
Jessica Varady pitched a perfect bottom of the fifth inning to close out Chico State to earn another win in the circle. Varady, who suffered the pitching duel loss in game one, threw 2 1/3 innings in relief and gave up just two singles for the win to even her personal record to 4-4.

Brittney Rickles all doubled in the game.
Brianna Nicholson tripled in the second inning. In all, the Warriors had six extra-base hits in game two.
In the opener, Alex Molina of Chico State won the pitching duel as she gave up three hits in the complete game shutout.
Jessica Varady made the game one start and pitched well, allowing just two runs on five hits in six innings.
Kristan Burns pitched to one batter in the fifth inning and issued a walk.
Wednesday night's non-conference doubleheader against Notre Dame de Namur is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
