Warriors, Golden Eagles finally played baseball late Sunday

3/2/2014 8:46:00 PM

Box Score LOS ANGELES — After many delays, game one of the CCAA series between Cal State Stanislaus and Cal State L.A. finally happened late Sunday. Host Cal State L.A. held-off a late Warrior rally to win 5-3.

The series was scheduled to start on Friday as usual, but due to rain, the teams completely rearranged the games. A pair of doubleheaders to be played on Sunday and Monday was the revised plan when team Stanislaus left Turlock Saturday morning.

On Sunday, after more rain delays, game one started at 5:30 p.m. The teams will try to play a doubleheader on Monday.

Stanislaus lefty ace Jeremy McDonald was dealing again despite giving up a run in the first inning. He struck out the first two batters and by the time his night was done, he had fanned nine.

But McDonald left after four innings trailing 4-0 following a three-run fourth by Cal State L.A. (7-8, 5-4 CCAA).

Cal State Stanislaus (5-7, 1-4 CCAA) made a late comeback in the ninth inning to avoid the shutout. Skippy Ferreria doubled down the line to score Klayton Miller, who had singled with one out. Anthony Nicolosi, who had walked, scored on a balk. Then, Ferreria plated on a Stevie Robinson grounder to short.

Ferreria had two of the team's five hits on the night.

Cal State L.A. was led by Manny Acosta's 2-for-5, 2 RBI night.
