Box Score TURLOCK — The Warriors' suddenly hot offense continued to pound out the hits, but No. 11 Chico State took game one of the four-game series by edging out a 4-3 game Friday night.

Cal State Stanislaus scattered 11 hits and responded to Chico State's three-run fifth with a rally before falling to the Wildcats. Games two and three of the California Collegiate Athletic Association series is on Saturday at 2 p.m.

But Friday night, the Warriors didn't let the Wildcats, winners of 11 of their last 13 and three straight games, faze them. Starter Nick Ippolito held down Chico State (17-5, 9-4 CCAA) for the most part until the fifth inning.

An error started the Chico fifth and by the time the inning was over, the Wildcats took a 3-0 lead.

Cal State Stanislaus responded with two runs in the home half of the fifth with a RBI single by Colton Beatty and a squeeze play that scored Skippy Ferreria.

Ferreria, the CCAA's player of the week and the NCBWA's regional player of the week, stayed hot. He went 2-for-3 on the night to extend his hitting streak to 13 games.

The Warriors (8-15, 4-12 CCAA) even the score in the sixth when Ferreria doubled to score Klayton Miller.

However, Chico State went back on top when Ryne Clark scored on a wild pitch during Ruben Padilla's strikeout.

Beatty ended up with two hits, as did Matt Chaidez on the night. Dustin Baisdon took the loss out of the bullpen.

For Chico State, Robert Hook was the winner in relief of Derek Sesma. Luke Barker picked up the save with three strong innings. He gave up just two hits in the final three innings.
