Box Score TURLOCK —
Nick Ippolito pitched out of early-game jams and
Dustin Baisdon dominated in relief as the Warriors shutout Academy of Art, 3-0, Friday night in a non-conference game.
Taking a break from the California Collegiate Athletic Association schedule, the Warriors used solid pitching to turn away the visiting Urban Knights to improve to 9-18 overall and snapped a four-game skid.
Making his second consecutive Friday night start, freshman starter
Nick Ippolito gave up just six hits in seven innings. However, his walks also got him in trouble early in the game but he was able to get out of jams.
AAU (8-21) had two runners on via two singles in the first inning, but Ippolito got a groundout to first to end the inning. With the bases loaded in the fourth, another grounder provented the Urban Knights from scoring. Ippolito also induced a double-play grounder in the fifth with runners at the corners with one out.
In the end, Academy of Art left 11 runners on base.
Baisdon picked up his second save of the year with two strong innings. He struck out three of the first four batters in faced and after a Daniel Robertson double with one out in the ninth, Baisdon secured the shutout win with a grounder and flyout to center.
Offensively, while the Warriors' weren't sharp on a calm Friday evening aginst AAU starter Alex Kuise, they did just enough to win.
Matt Chaidez's sac fly in the first scored
Skippy Ferreria who led off with a single. Then
Charlie Gaff set the table for the other two runs. Gaff led off both the sixth and eight innings with singles through the left side and eventually scored.
After Gaff stole second, he scored on
Marcus Mastrobuoni's two-out single in the sixth. In the eighth, Gaff ledoff with a single, advanced to second on a Ferreria groundout and moved to third on a wild pitch.
Colton Beatty laid down a great squeeze bunt to score Gaff for the third Stanislaus run.
The second and third game of the series, originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon, has been moved to Sunday at 3 p.m. due to impending weather.
