Box Score 2 CARSON — The Cal State Stanislaus baseball team got a good performance from the top of the lineup offensively but came up on the short end of the scores as the Warriors dropped a pair to Cal State Dominguez Hills Saturday.
The first four batters in the batting order went a combined 16 for 33 for the twinbill to account for 16 of the team's 19 hits. However, the Warriors dropped to 11-20 overall and 5-17 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Marcus Mastrobuoni was 6-for-9 with two RBIs on the day and
Dayton Mellor went 3-for-7 with a homer and drove in three runs in the twinbill to lead the Warriors.
Matt Chaidez and
Skippy Ferreria each also had four hits.
Colton Beatty, who batted second in game one, also went 2-for-5.
Cal State Dominguez Hills scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth to take a 7-3 lead to answer the Warriors' two run top of the eighth. Mellor belted a two-run jack in the top of the eighth to tie the game 3-3.
Mastrobuoni went 4-for-4 in game two but the Warriors trailed 5-1 until Stanislaus score twice in the fifth to pull closer. Mastrobuoni and Mellor both singled in runs.
Nick Voumard started game one on Saturday and pitched five innings before
Donnie Fairchilds and
Martin Gomez came in in relief. Gomez, who pitched the eighth suffered the loss as he game up a three-run homer to Kameron Young.
Aaron Godinez started the nightcap and was charged with the loss. He threw four innings and allowed five runs on six hits.
The series finale is on Sunday at 11 a.m. as the Warriors try to even the score.
