Cierrah Mullins had a nice all-around day on Sunday as she and the Warriors won a game in the bronze bracket during the Tournament of Champions play on Sunday.
Mulllins went 3-for-4, including a home run, to lead Cal State Stanislaus to a 8-2 win in a bracket semifinal game. The Warriors then played well in a tight 2-0 loss to Saint Martin's in the bronze title game to conclude play.
The Warriors went 2-5 in the three-day event, sponsored by the Turlock Convention and Visitors Bureau. Stanislaus won twice during a weekend for the first time since mid-Februray when the Warriors split a CCAA series with Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Mullins was also part of the Warriors four-run seventh inning against Academy of Art. Three straight singles by Stanislaus in the ninth resulted in a run when
Natalie Winters singled in pinch hitter
Danielle Kelm. A walk later, Mullins drove in
Cassidy Duke with a single and later in the inning, back to back singles by
Amy Droege and
Kristan Burns plated two more runs.
Droege was 2-for-4 with two RBIs against the Urban Knights and Winters drove in three runs, including a two-run single in the third, to help the Stanislaus cause.
Karina Callazo picked up the win as he threw all seven innings and gave up two runs on five hits.
In the second game of the day, for the bronze bracket championship, Stanislaus was held to two singles by Saint Martin's Sam Munger. Munger took a one-hitter into the final inning until Mullins singled for her fourth hit of the day.
Mullins made the All-Tournament team as the senior batted .364, 8-for-22 with six runs scored, a homer and drove in six runs.
The 2014 Tournament of Champions was won by Humboldt State, which defeated Sonoma State, 4-0, in the gold bracket championship game behind another stellar performance by pitcher Liz Perez, the tournament's most valuable player.
Cal State Monterey Bay went 7-0 and won the silver bracket with a comeback win over Chico State.
