TURLOCK — Despite the final score, the Warriors women's tennis team were competitive against the No. 23 ranked Cal State L.A. team.
Ebone Qualls provided the only team point in her No. 5 singles victory as Cal State Stanislaus dropped the 8-1 decision to the Golden Eagles on a breezy Tuesday afternoon at the CSUS Tennis Courts.
Against the nationally ranked opponent — Cal State L.A. is also No. 6 in the West Region — the Warriors held home court and challenged the Golden Eagles including a close 8-5 score at No. 1 doubles.

Jessica Laurie fell to Sonia Landero and Nozomi Matusoka, the sixth ranked duo in the West, 8-5. At the other two doubles positions, the Warriors dropped 8-3 decisions.
In singles play, Qualls provided the victory for Stanislaus in a three-set win. After taking the first, 6-4, L.A.'s Victoria Vo rallied to even the set-score with a 6-3 set two. Qualls then pushed to win the super-tiebreaker 10-7 for the lone team point.
Laurie also took her opponent, Landeros, to three sets at No. 2 singles. Landeros entered the match as the 17th best player int he West Region according to the ITA rankings. At No. 3 singles, Elizaveta Sokolova had to hold on in the first set 7-6 by winning the tie-breaker 7-2, against Warriors'
Analyssa Tallas.
The Warriors, now 2-7, will take on a short-handed Hawaii Hilo team on Wednesday at Noon. The Vulcans only have five players available for action this week.
