Marcus Mastrobuoni's three-run homer in the eight propelled the Warriors as Cal State Stanislaus upset firs-place Cal Poly Pomona, 11-8, in game one of the Saturday doubleheader. Game two was suspended due to rain.
Skippy Ferreria and
Nick Molina each went 3-for with two runs batted in and
Nick Voumard picked up the victory on the mound to help the Warriors improved to 20-24 overall and 15-19 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Cal Poly Pomona is 32-12 and 24-10.
With a 8-3 lead in the seventh, Mastrobuoni took Richie McWilliams deep to make it an 11-3 advantage. The Warriors had used a five-run fifth behind a two-run single to center by Molina and a Ferreria double to right-center in the inning.
Stanislaus got out ontop 2-0 in the second with RBI singles by
Eriksen Dickens and a
Klayton Miller double to right-center.
Voumard threw six innings, gave up four runs on four hits with three strikeouts to improve to 6-2 on the season.
The Warriors led 2-0 in the second inning of game two when rain suspended play. Teams will resume game three of the series on Sunday at 11 a.m. before starting the finale.
