Series Notes: The Warriors are taking on the Wildcats of Chico State for the 40
th time since 1998. Stan State is 12-27 against the Wildcats, winning at home and losing in Chico in 2015...Saturday's match will mark the second time the Warriors are taking on Humboldt State this season, having lost to them two weeks ago in Arcata. The Warriors are currently 13-10 against the Lumberjacks, and are looking for their first home win against Humboldt State since 2012.
Top of the Chart: This is a key week in the CCAA, with the top three teams in the North division up against each other. Going into Wednesday night's match, Stanislaus State has the opportunity to move up to the top of the conference. If the Warriors are victorious against the Wildcats, both teams will be 4-2 in conference play, putting them in a tie for the top of the Northern division. A win against Humboldt State on Saturday could potentially keep the Warriors at the top of the North for the following week.
Massengale for the Kill: Middle Blocker
Taylor Massengale is coming off of one of her strongest weekends this season. Against Cal State San Bernardino on Friday night, Massengale had 17 kills and only four errors on 33 attempts. On Saturday against Cal Poly Pomona, Massengale collected nine kills in just three short sets. In all, she tallied 26 kills for a 3.25 kills per set average.
Another Day at Fitzpatrick Arena: This weekend the Warriors will be concluding a long stretch of home competitions that started out the season. 11 out of the Warriors' last 12 matches have been played at Fitzpatrick Arena. Beginning next week, the Warriors will being a five-match stretch away from home over the course of two weeks, two of which take place mid-week on Tuesday the 11
th and 18
th.
About Chico State: The Wildcats are being led by outside hitters Olivia Mediano (3.43 kills per set) and Camryn Rocha (3.33 kills per set). Rocha was named the CCAA volleyball player of the week for the 25 kills she had last weekend with wins over Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino, including 16 against No. 17 ranked CSUSB. In the back row, Shannon Cotton is leading the Wildcats defense with an average of 4.49 digs per set.
About Humboldt State: Symone Hayden leads the Lumberjacks offense with 3.33 kills per set. Hayden is also a prominent member of the Lumberjacks back row with 3.17 digs per set. She follows behind Sarah Shively who leads with an average of 4.15 digs per set. Humboldt State had last weekend off and has not played since Sept. 24.
