Warriors Notes
Elite Teams To Visit:Â Humboldt State and Cal Poly Pomona, two perennial regional powers, are the guests in Turlock this weekend. The Broncos and the Lumberjacks are combined 36-11 this season (23-11 in CCAA play) while occupying the third and fourth spots in the CCAA standings, respectively.
The Slide Continues:Â The Stan State men's basketball team continues to fight ahead but its current losing streak continues. The Warriors have lost 11 straight games, just one shy of matching the streak of 12 consecutive defeats set by the 2004-05 team.
21 More For Bayne:Â Christian Bayne continues to be the go-to scorer as he netted another 20-point game on Saturday with 21 at UCSD. He has now scored in double figures in all but one game and is just two points shy of 300 this season. His 13.7 points per game average is 14th in the CCAA.
Bayne All Over Leaderboard:Â Sophomore guard Christian Bayne is an all-around player as he's among the CCAA leaders in a number of statistical categories. Aside from being in the top 15 in scoring, he's eighth in three-point percentage (.398), ninth in three-pointers per game (2.1), fourth in free throw shooting percentage (.833), 14th in rebounding (5.7 rpg), eighth in defensive rebounds per game (4.8), seventh in assists per game (3.4) and seventh in steals per game (1.3).
Wounded Warriors: The Warriors have been playing short-handed lately with two starters out of the line-up after Alek Carlson went down with a shoulder injury on Feb. 5. His return is questionable and may be a game time decision on Friday … Richard Medina remains sidelined with a quad injury.
Stats Spell Trouble:Â Looking at the team stats, the Warriors could be in for a long weekend. Humboldt State is the top scoring team in the CCAA at 83.7 points per game (the Warriors are at 62.9) while Cal Poly Pomona is the top defense, allowing just 59.4 points per game (Stanislaus gives up 71.3 ppg).
Well, We Lead In Something:Â Stanislaus State does lead in offensive rebounds, at 11 per game. Kyle Gouveia's 2.8 rebounds per CCAA game is second best in the conference.
Look on The Bright Side:Â Christian Bayne could end up with more points in a season than any Warriors in the recent past not named Marcus Bell or Reggie White. Bayne is on pace to finish with 354 points, which is more than Chris Read's total last year (352). Heath Colvin (2007-08) was the last Warrior not named Bell or White to score that many points (406).
A Rebuilding Year:Â The Warriors will finish the season with the worst overall record during coach Larry Reynold's tenure. At best, Stanislaus State can finish with nine-wins by finishing on a four-game winning streak. The Warriors had two 10-win seasons (2009-10 and 2012-13) since Reynolds' arrival in 2009. The worst season during the CCAA era was the 2007-08 season when the Warriors went 6-21.
