Warriors Notes
Playing In Front of Crowds:Â The two largest crowds of the year are expected this weekend as the Warriors host Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday for Homecoming, where upwards of 2,000 students and spectators will be on hand. Saturday night, when Cal State East Bay visits, another big crowd is expected with alums and former Warriors come together to recognize the Warrior Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Class of 2016.
Lots of Former Basketball Greats:Â The Stan State men's basketball team will play in front of a Hall of Fame class that includes some former basketball greats. The 1982 Men's Basketball Team, which advanced to the NCAA Championship tournament semifinal game, is among those being honored. All but one player, including the coaching staff, are returning to visit on Saturday. Also among the inductees is George White, who holds six Stanislaus State scoring records including 805 points in a season (1968-69).
Put a Break on the Skid:Â The Warriors would like nothing more than to put a stop to this streak of set-backs this weekend at home in front of the big crowds. The Warriors have lost seven straight games, the longest such streak since the 2004-05 season when that squad dropped 12 consecutive contest en route to a 7-20 season.
No More Double-Digits Games:Â Sophomore guard Christian Bayne ended his streak of double-digits games Saturday at Chico State when he scored eight points. Bayne had put up at least 10 points a game in the first 16 games of the season. Bayne now averages 13.9 points per game and is second with 32 three-pointers made and 6.0 rebounds per game.
Cooling Off Alek:Â Alek Carlson, who led the team with 10 points at Chico on Saturday, still leads the team with 36 three pointers (.343 percentage, 2nd best on team). However, he's cool off a bit over the last five games after draining five triples against Cal Poly Pomona on Jan. 7. In the last five games, he's 6-for-32.Â
Down But Not Out:Â Despite the losing streak, the Warriors find themselves still in the race for a berth in the CCAA tournament with eight regular season games to go (four of the final eight games are against teams currently behind the Warriors). Stanislaus State currently sits in ninth place in the standings, but is just 1/2 game behind eighth place San Francisco State. The top eight teams will play in the postseason tournament.
Not So Close:Â Unfortuately, the Warriors have been out scored by 102 points during the seven-game losing streak (14.6 points per game). These numbers were made worse by the two blow-out losses by 22 (at Humboldt State) and 35 (at Chico State).
Points off Turnovers:Â One of the key stats in the past seven games was opponents' points off turnovers. The Warriors have allowed 115 points in these games (16.4 ppg), including 20 at Cal State San Marcos and 26 at Humboldt State.
