This Week's Opponents

Cal Poly Pomona BRONCOS (3-10, 1-8 CCAA)
Series Notes:
Cal Poly Pomona snapped a 3-game skid against the Warriors last February and now holds a 29-9 series record.

Last Time We Met... was Feb. 20, 2016 in Turlock in a Stanislaus 80-68 overtime win. The Warriors upset No. 20 Pomona by outscoring the Broncos, 18-6 in extra time. Kyle Gouveia had 21 points and 11 rebounds in that game.

About the Broncos: Cal Poly Pomona has lost four straight and is 1-8 in its last nine games … Jordan Oqundiran leads the Broncos with 13.7 points a game. Cal Poly Pomona … The Broncos averages 63.9 points per CCAA game (and allows 71.4 per game).

Humboldt State LUMBERJACKS (8-8, 3-6 CCAA)
Series Notes:
The Lumberjacks have won two straight over Stanislaus, including a CCAA win earlire this season. HSU is 18-4 in the series against the Warriors and are 12-0 at home.

Last Time We Met... was on Dec. 10 in Turlock in a 78-58 HSU win … Kaelen Mitchell had 15 points and Kyle Gouveia netted 10 points with 12 rebounds … HSU shot 57 percent in the second half to pull away.

About the Lumberjacks: Tyras Rattler leads three Jacks in double digits in scoring with 14.2 points per game … Calvin Young is HSU's top rebounder with 8.0 per contest … HSU has lost four straight games including a home game on Dec. 31 (CSUMB).

Better at Home
The Warriors are now 4-4 in games played at home at Fitzpatrick Arena, where they will get four more chances this season. They will host a pair next weekend, Jan. 27-28, before two Thursday night home games in February.

Offensive Explosion
Last Friday, against Cal State Dominguez Hills, the Warriors turned in their best CCAA game this season while racking up 86 points. The points total surpassed the key 60-point mark (the team is now 0-10 when scoring less than 60 points). The Warriors shot season highs from the field (52.7 percent), three-point line (45 percent) and foul line (79.2 percent) … Five Warriors — Kaelen Mitchell (18 points), Jaelen Ragsdale (13), Joey Bennett (13), Richard Medina (11) and Vondel Faniel (10) — were in double digits in scoring.

The Long Trip
Widely regarded in the conference as the toughest road trip to make, the Warriors will travel south to Pomona late Wednesday for the Thursday contest at Cal Poly Pomona. The team will return to Turlock early Friday morning before departing that afternoon for Arcata, where they will face Humboldt State on Saturday. The team returns to Turlock Sunday afternoon. In all, the Warriors will travel approximately 1,400 miles by bus in about four days.

Not-So-Great Results
The Warriors have lost eight straight games since the start of the 2012-13 season when making this SoCal-Humboldt trip. The only difference during this stretch was in 2014-15 when the Southern California opponent was Cal State San Bernardino and not Cal Poly Pomona.

Dominant with Boards
The Warriors posted a season-best plus-20 in rebounding in Saturday's game against Cal State L.A., out-rebounding the Golden Eagles, 46-26. Stan State had 15 offensive rebounds which turned into 15 second chance points. Vondel Faniel led the way with 12 rebounds, seven of them on offense.

Getting to 60
The magic number for points in a game for Stan State appears to be 60. They have now scored less than 60 points in a game 10 times and are 0-10 in those games … Stan State is 5-1 in games when it scored 60 points or more. Stanislaus State is the league's lowest scoring team, averaging just 58.1 points per CCAA contest.

Solid Defensive Efforts
The Warriors remain one of the better defensive teams in the CCAA through nine conference games. Stan State ranks fifth in scoring defense, allowing just 65.6 points a game. The Warriors are third in opponents' field goal percentage (39.0).

Not Taking Care of the Rock
Another area that has not been helpful for the Warriors is turnovers. As a team, the Warriors have turned the ball over, on average, 15.7 times per game, the most in the CCAA. Stan State's turnover margin is at -7.00. In Saturday's loss against Cal State L.A., the Warriors committed 17 turnovers (for 18 Golden Eagles points) compared to L.A.'s five.
