This Week's Opponents

Cal State Monterey Bay OTTERS (3-21, 1-17 CCAA)
Series Notes: The Warriors have lost two straight to Cal State Monterey Bay as the Otters hold a 13-12 advantage in the all-time series mark.

Last Time We Met... was on Dec. 9 in Turlock with the Warriors winning 68-61. Joey Bennett and AJ Bigornia each scored 14 points with three three-pointers.

About the Otters: The last place Otters have lost 12 straight games since winning in Arcata against Humboldt State on Dec. 31 …  Kevin Warren averages 12.5 points a game. He leads the team with 36 three-pointers … CSUMB ties Stanislaus State with a CCAA-low 62.3 points per game average … The Otters are last in the CCAA in FG% (.406).

Cal State East Bay Pioneers (12-14, 5-13 CCAA)
Series Notes: Cal State East Bay defeated the Warriors for the first time in CCAA play last February, ending a 13-game losing streak. The Warriors are ahead 13-1 in the head-to-head record (CCAA era).

Last Time We Met... was Feb. 6, 2016 in Turlock. CSUEB won 73-53 as the Warriors shot just 29.2 percent. Oddly Saturday is the teams' only meeting this season.

About the Pioneers: Cal State East Bay has lost seven straight games with its last win on Jan. 21 at Cal State Dominguez Hills … Micah Dunhour leads the Pioneers with 16.5 points and 6.8 rebounds a game. He also has 15 blocked shots and has made 97 free throws (124 tries).

Someone's Going to End a Streak
This week, the Warriors face the other two bottom teams in the CCAA and someone is going to snap a losing streak. Entering the week, the Warriors have a seven-game losing streak while Cal State Monterey Bay has lost 12 straight … If Chico State can take down Cal State East Bay on Friday, the Pioneers would enter Saturday's finale with an eight-game losing streak.

Finishing Strong
In recent years, the Warriors have been able to end the CCAA regular season strong. Last year, the Warriors won three of their last four games. In 2014-15, Stan State won three straight games to enter the CCAA tournament. The year prior, in 2013-14, the Warriors won four straight regular season games before posting a nine-game winning streak all the way to the NCAA West Regional Championship title game.

Playing in Monterey
The Otter Sports Complex (or The Kelp Bed) has not been a friendly place for the Warriors the last two trips there to Seaside. The Warriors have combined to drop by an average of 25 points in the last two games played there. In 2014-15, the Warriors lost 80-60 and last season, CSUMB won 86-56 at home.

Mitchell a Double-Double
We knew Kaelen Mitchell is a scorer — he's averaging 10.1 points a game. But this past Saturday, he rebounded, too. Mitchell, who averaged 2.8 rebounds a game entering last week, pulled 10 rebounds at Chico State on Saturday for his first double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds).

Vondel 500
Vondel Faniel has a chance to score 500 points in just two seasons of play as a Warrior this week. Entering the week, the JC transfer netted 481 points in 50 games. In recent years, Chris Read accomplish this feat with 724 points in two seasons … Marcus Bell (2013-14) scored 558 points in one season.

Winning at Rebounding
Stan State remains the second best rebounding team in the CCAA, averaging 36.3 per game. The Warriors fell to fourth in allowing rebounds as opponents average 30.7 rebounds a game .

Freshman of the year?
Jaelen Ragsdale
could make a case for CCAA Freshman of the Year as he's had a stellar rookie season. Ragsdale is averaging 9.7 points per game and has scored 20 points twice with 10 double-digit scoring game. Since he became a starter (16 games), he's scored in double digits in 11 of 16 games while averaging 12.4 points per game (team high 31.1 minutes per game) with 32 total assists. He's also prolific at the free throw line in these 16 games, hitting on 86 percent of attempts (54-for-63).

Oh, That 60-point Mark
Stan State continues to struggle to get a victory when scoring less than 60 points. The Warriors are now 0-14 in those games.

Road Woes
The Warriors are once again having difficulties playing on the road. They are 1-9 this season in away games and are 4-19 in the last two seasons. During the CCAA era, Stanislaus had two winning seasons in away games (7-6 twice).

Reynolds to be in CSUSB HOF
Head coach Larry Reynolds is being inducted into the Cal State San Bernardino Athletics Hall of Fame in May, as CSUSB announced on Wednesday. Reynolds won three CCAA titles, two NCAA West Region championships and four consecutive NCAA tournament appearances in five seasons at CSUSB. The Coyotes were 110-35 under Reynolds, a four-time CCAA Coach of he Year honoree. [See page 4 for more information on Larry Reynolds]

Missing Out
Unfortunately the Warriors will miss the CCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season after qualifying for the event in each of the two previous seasons (2013-14 and 2014-15). Stanislaus State is three seasons removed from its last CCAA conference tournament championship, when the Warriors won the title at the end of the 2013-14 season.
