Softball begins CCAA play at Cal State Dominguez Hills

This week the Warrior softball team heads down south for to open CCAA play at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Series Notes: The Warriors are 36-40 against the Toros overall, 8-20 in Carson. Last season Stan State hosted Cal State Dominguez Hills and won the series 3-1 which included a 10-inning victory 12-11.
 
Rain Alters Schedule: With rain expected through the week, the series originally scheduled to start on Friday has been delayed a day to begin on Saturday. Teams will play the Saturday doubleheader at Noon and play two more on Sunday starting at 11 a.m.

CCAA Leader: Currently Alexus Martinez has tallied the most hits amongst her fellow teammates and CCAA opponents. Martinez has 11 hits so far in just one week of preseason play. She is followed by athletes from Cal State East Bay, Chico State, and Cal State San Bernardino who each have eight total hits … She is also the conference leader with 21 at bats.
 
Extra Bases Stars: Cassidy Duke is one of 10 CCAA softball athletes to have two or more home runs already this season. Nicolette Vizcaino and Katelyn McDonald are two of seven CCAA athletes to hit one or more triples, and McDonald (3) and Martinez (2) are also two of 10 athletes to hit two or more doubles this preseason.

Successful Tournament: The Warriors returned from the MSUB Desert Stinger with a 3-2 record, including a win over No. 18 ranked California Baptist on Saturday. They also posted wins over University of Mary and Concordia Portland.

4-2 Start: Stan State's 4-2 start matches the same record after six games from the beginning of the 2013 season when they started 5-2 before CCAA play.
 
About Cal State Dominguez Hills: The Toros started off their season alongside the Warriors at the Desert Stinger in Las Vegas last weekend. They went 1-4 earning their only victory over Concordia Irvine the day before the Warriors loss to them … Analisa Nicholson is a Toros starter with a leading batting average of .429. She ties for second with Lyzette Reveles with six hits following Madison Murphy who leads with seven hits. Murphy has two doubles, two home runs, and six RBI … Jade Loe is the Toros' leading pitcher with an 8.27 era. She has a 1-1 win-loss record, has given up 19 hits, and has four strike outs.
