FRESNO — Michael Jura earned his second top-five finish in as many tournaments and
Brad Sparrer was just outside the top-50 as the two played as individuals this week at the Nick Watney Invitational, a primarily NCAA Division I tournament played at the San Joaquin Country Club.
Jura finished second among the 84-golfer field – all of whom who were from Division I programs, except for himself and Sparrer. Jura was runner-up by three strokes to tournament winner Ethan Davidson of Sacramento State, who was seven-under par for the three-round tournament. Jura posted back-to-back two-under 69s in Monday's first two rounds. He then shot an even-par 71 on Tuesday to tally a four-under 209 for the tournament and stay ahead of a log jam of eight other players who also shot under par.
Jura's runner-up finish in his second tournament this fall followed his fifth-place finish two weeks ago at the Sonoma State Men's Invitational, in which he shot even par across the three-round competition.
Sparrer finished tied for 51st with a three-round total of 226 (+13). He shot 75 and 73, respectively, on Monday, then came back Tuesday and shot a seven-over 78.
The Warriors next compete on Oct. 11-12 at the Wildcat Classic hosted by Chico State at The Links at Rolling Hills in Corning.
