WAHIAWA, Hawaii. -- The Warriors took to the islands for their first slate of matches sponsored by Southwest Airlines. The two-day tournament hosted by Hawaii Pacific started off great for the Warriors. Jet lag was not a factor as the team finished day one in third place on the leaderboards after
Chris Ebster,
Chris Chomyn, and
Nate Jetton all cracked the top 20. Ebster and Chomyn each tied for eighth place going 2-under, while Jetton was just under at -1 to place 12th.
Armaan Sahota also managed to stay within range of his competitors at 1-over.
With a shot to take home the victory up in the air as day two tee'd off, big improvements from Stan State's squad helped propel them up the leaderboards. Ebster and Jetton saw solid improvements in their scores that jumped them up a few spots through round two. Ebster's -7 day helped him take home the shared tournament title with Chico State's Tyler Ashman. Jetton also saw significant improvement, ending with a 5-under day to place sixth. The Warriors' next best performer was Sahota in 36th, shooting an even 72 strokes in their second and final day of competition. Chomyn would finish his hot start in 45th, followed by Jared Hernandez who moved up 14 spots to place 70th.
"Chris and Nate played incredibly well today", says Head Coach
Brandon Christianson. "Scores were low and we were up for the challenge of making as many birdies as possible. Chris birdied his final hole to tie for the individual win as well as securing a tie for the team win. Jarred made a huge comeback today after an off day yesterday, and Armaan was solid all throughout the tournament. We are thrilled to start the Hawaii swing with a win and we look forward to keeping the momentum into the Dennis Rose invitational later this week."
The Warriors will enjoy some time on the beach before they compete in the two-day Dennis Rose Invitational hosted by Hawaii Hilo this Friday and Saturday, Oct. 28th-29th at 7:30am (HT).
