Warriors’ Darren Holman Named Two-Time CCAA Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year

TURLOCK, Calif---  As announced by the office of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), Stan State head coach Darren Holman has been named the CCAA Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year.  This is the second year in a row that Holman has received this honor as voted on by the conference's head coaches.

Last Saturday in Carmel, the Warriors captured their second consecutive CCAA Women's Cross Country Championship Title at the CCAA Cross County Championships.  For the second year in a row, Kaela Dishion won the championship with a course record time of 20:54.1. 

The Warriors had four of the top ten finishers including Dishion in Najwa Chouati (third, 21:20.9), Kayden Legan (seventh, 21:53.36) and Yahaira Zuniga (ninth, 22:03).  All four runners earned All-CCAA honors by placing in the fifteen in the 6K race.  Dishion was the CCAA Runner of the Year while Chouati was the CCAA Newcomer of the Year. 

Stan State was ranked all season long in the NCAA Division II Women's Cross Country National Coaches' Top 30 Poll.  For the past six weeks, the Warriors have been in the top eight in the country including as high as seventh. 

The Warriors participated in four invitationals this season including capturing the Kim Duyst Twilight in early September and the Cougar Challenge in late September.  Dishion was named the CCAA Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week three times this season and once the USTFCCCA National Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week.

Both the Stan State men's and women's cross country teams will now be gearing up for the 2022 NCAA Division II Women's Cross Country West Regional Championships November 19 at Amend Park in Billings, Montana.  The men's 10K race will begin at 10am (MT) followed by the women's 6K race at 11:15am (MT).  The Warriors will be looking to qualify for the 2022 NCAA Division II National Cross Country Championships which are set for December 2 as part of the Fall Festival in University Place, Washington.
