LIVERMORE — Two individuals in the top-10 and a top-five team finish highlighted the Stanislaus State men's golf team's play at the NNU Nighthawks Invitational, as the Warriors finished fifth at the two-round tournament held Monday and Tuesday at Poppy Ridge Golf Course.
The Warriors shot a team score of 599 (+23) for the tournament, which was shortened to two rounds. Stanislaus State beat three other California Collegiate Athletic Association teams while earning their first top-five finish of the spring. Cal State East Bay won the team title with a total score of 583 (+7).
Brad Sparrer (72-73—145) and
Chris Ebster (75-71—146) finished seventh and ninth, respectively. Sparrer's even-par 72 on Monday was tied for the fourth-best round of the day. Ebster's one-under 71 during Tuesday's final round was also tied for the fourth-best round of that day. Sparrer had nine birdies across the two rounds, tied for third-most in the tournament.
Michael Jura tied for 30th with a two-round total of 151 (+7). He came back Tuesday to shoot an even-par 72 after a seven-over 79 on Monday.
Tim Sauer was the Warriors' fourth scoring golfer, shooting 81-76—157 (+13) to tie for 55th.
Armaan Sahota tied for 80th with rounds of 85 and 83.
Stanislaus State is back in the East Bay starting Monday for the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout at Corica Park Golf Course in Alameda.
