Warriors Among Top-Five Through Two Rounds at Super Regional

PUEBLO, Colo. — It was moving day, indeed, on Friday during the second round of the NCAA Division II Men's Golf West/South Central Super Regional at Pueblo Country Club.
 
The Stanislaus State men's golf team was one of 17 teams that made moves on the leaderboard on day two. The Warriors concluded play Friday still in position for one of five tickets to the NCAA Division II National Championship, sitting in a three-way tie for fifth place.
 
17 of 20 teams changed places, 11 teams moved two or more places, and four of them shifted five or more spots on the leaderboard. The Stanislaus State men, after leading the field through Thursday's round one, shot a 4-over 288 team score on Friday to total 1-under 567 through two rounds.
 
Brad Sparrer went under par in round two with a 2-under 69. He moved into a tie for 13th individually at 2-under for the tournament (71-69—140). Chris Ebster followed his 1-under 70 on Thursday with a 1-over 72 on Friday. He's tied for 25th at even par (70-72—142).
 
Tim Sauer posted a 2-over 73 and is now tied for 49th at 3-over (72-73—145). Michael Jura is tied with Sparrer and five other players in 13th after shooting a 3-over 74 on Friday to put him at 2-under through two rounds. He was in second place by one stroke with a 5-under 66 in Thursday's opening round. Armaan Sahota improved his score by three strokes, shooting 6-over 77 to sit tied for 103rd (80-77—157).
 
The Warriors are tied in fifth place with Oklahoma Christian and fellow California Collegiate Athletic Association member Cal State San Marcos. Oklahoma Christian shot 7-under as a team to gain six spots on the leaderboard. CSUSM went 5-under to climb three spots. The trio trails team leader Midwestern State by 10 strokes, which posted an impressive 13-under team score to climb five spots and grab the tournament lead.
 
Stanislaus State will play alongside eighth-place Colorado Christian and ninth-place Cameron University in Saturday's final round, with a berth to the NCAA National Championship on the line. The Warriors tee off at 11 a.m. CDT/10 a.m. PDT. Fans can find live results links on WarriorAthletics.com.
