Stan State Will Begin Its 2023 Season One Week From Today, Feb. 1, at Academy of Art

Warriors to Begin 2023 at Academy of Art

TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State's baseball team will begin their 2023 season on Wednesday, February 1 under the lights in Oakland when the Warriors take on Academy of Art in a single nine-inning non-conference game with first pitch scheduled for 6pm.  Their home opener is set for Friday, February 10 at Warrior Field with Holy Names University in a non-conference doubleheader which is scheduled to begin at 1pm.  These three games will be the beginning of a 50-game schedule for the Warriors.

Stan State, under the direction of 21st-year head coach Kenny Leonesio, finished the 2023 season with a 15-31 record including going 12-28 in the CCAA.  The Warriors return All-CCAA honorees Danny Murphy and Maxwell Pappas.  Murphy hit a team leading .331 with 45 hits of which eight were doubles.  He scored 23 runs and posted a .988 fielding percentage as the Warriors' primary catcher.  Pappas went 6-5 on the mound for Stan State with a 4.96 earned run average.  He struck out 66 batters in 69 innings pitched. 

Also back for the Warriors on the mound is Anthony Ramirez who posted a 2.86 earned run average with 39 strikeouts 44 innings pitched.  Jonluke Goldman returns for his second season as a Warrior after hitting .318 as a freshman.  The first baseman/catcher had 41 hits while driving in 17 runs.  Outfielder Alex Solis returns also for his sophomore season after leading the Warriors with his 14 doubles last season  Solis drove in 27 runs and scored 23 times in the 46 games he started in for Stan State. 

After hosting Holy Names in a non-conference doubleheader on February 10, Stan State will travel to Alameda to face the Hawks in another non-conference doubleheader at 1pm on February 11. 
Stan State will begin a nine-game home stand with a single non-conference games against Menlo College on February 14 at 5pm.  The Warriors will finish off their non-conference slate, February 17-18, with a four-game series with Central Washington.  They will play the Wildcats in back-to-back 1pm starting doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday. 

The Warriors will conclude their nine-game home stand with their CCAA opener of the regular season.  They will host No. 29 Cal State Monterey Bay in a four-game series at Warrior Field.  The series will begin with a 6pm single game on February 24. The series will continue with a 1pm starting doubleheader on February 25 and will conclude with a noon starting single game on February 26.

After hosting the Otters, Stan State will travel to Chico for a four-game series with Chico State beginning with a 5pm starting single game on March 3.  The two teams will play a 1pm starting doubleheader on March 4.  The series will conclude with a single noon starting single game on March 5.

Stan State will come back home the next weekend to host Cal State San Bernardino in a four-game series, March 10-12.  The two teams will pay a single game at 6pm on Friday, a 1pm starting doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday at noon. 

The Warriors will travel to Southern California for a four-game series in Carson, Calif., with Cal State Dominguez Hills March 17-19.  The series will begin at 3pm on Friday, continue Saturday at noon and finish on Sunday at noon. 

They will come back come to host Cal State Los Angeles for a four-game series March 24-26.  The two teams will start the series with a 6pm starting game on Friday.  The series will continue Saturday with a 1pm starting doubleheader.  It will conclude with a noon starting game on Sunday.

Stan State will return down south the next weekend, March 31-April 2, for a four-game series at Cal State San Marcos.  The series will begin on March 31 at 3pm, continue April 1 with a noon starting doubleheader and will conclude on April 2 with a 11am starting single game.

The Warriors will have a week off and return to the diamond April 14-16 for a four-game series with San Francisco State.  The series will begin on Friday at 6pm, continue with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1pm and conclude at noon on Sunday.

They will return to the road for a four-game series with No. 21 Cal Poly Pomona in Pomona, April 21-23.  The series will begin with a single game at 1pm on Friday.  It will continue with a noon starting doubleheader on Saturday.  The series will conclude on Sunday with a single game at 11am.

Stan State will return home for the final time in the regular season, April 28-30 hosting Sonoma State in a four-game series.  The two teams will begin the series with a 6pm single nine-inning game on Friday.  The doubleheader will continue Saturday at 1pm.  The series will conclude on Sunday with a noon starting game.

The Warriors will be on the road for their final four games of the regular season in Hayward, May 4-6, to face Cal State East Bay.   The two teams will begin the series with a 3pm game on Thursday.  The series will continue with a noon starting doubleheader on Friday and will conclude on Saturday at noon.

Stan State will look to qualify for the CCAA Baseball Championship, which are set for May 10-13 in Seaside, Calif., on the campus of Cal State Monterey Bay.  The winner of the CCAA's will receive the leagues' automatic berth to the NCAA Division II National Baseball Championships.  The NCAA tournament begins on May 18 with the West Regionals.
