Baseball to Travel to Chico for Four-Game Series with Wildcats

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Stan State will return to the road after a 5-4 home stand this weekend in Chico, Calif., for a four-game series with the Chico State Wildcats.  The four-game series will begin with a 3pm starting doubleheader this Friday, March 3. The series will conclude with a noon starting doubleheader on Saturday, March 4.

LAST WEEKEND:  The Warriors began their CCAA season with a four-game series in Turlock against Collegiate Baseball preseason No. 29 Cal State Monterey Bay.  CSUMB took the first three games of the series 8-0, 15-6 and 12-5 with the Warriors taking the series finale 7-6.  Stan State hit .244 for the series with Robert Valdivia hitting .538 with seven hits of which three were doubles.  He posted a .769 slugging percentage and a .647 on-base percentage.  Tyler Van Dyk and Alexander Cummings each hit .333 during the four-game series for the Warriors.  Jacob Baker is now eight-for-eight in stolen base attempts after going three-for-three.  As a team, the Warriors went six-for-six in stolen base attempts with three Stan State players going one-for-one in Valdivia, Kyle Rachels and Mac Cabero.

Caleb Bertoncini picked up the Warrior victory in relief on Sunday.  Noah Chelberg appeared in two games on the mound while pitching three innings, giving up two hits and striking out three.  Casey Carr and Maxwell Pappas each struck out a team high four batters. 

UPDATE ON THE WARRIORS: Stan State is 8-6 and 1-3 in the CCAA entering its four-game series at Chico State.  As a team, the Warriors are hitting .258 as a team and have a 4.74 earned run average.  Four players are hitting over .300 in Tyler Van Dyk (.344), Kyle Rachels (.333), Flavio Perez (.309) and Robert Valdivia (.302).  Rachels leads the team with his .556 slugging percentage, 18 hits, six doubles, two home runs and 15 runs scored.  Van Dyk has a team high .475 on-base percentage.  Jacob Baker leads the team with his eight stolen bases.  Perez has driven in a team leading 16 runs.  Three players have one triple each in JD Madrigal, Ryan Leonesio and Jacob Baker

Austin Balentine leads the team with his 0.60 earned run average in 15 innings pitched.  Noah Chelberg has a 0.00 earned run average in 7.2 innings pitched and Bobby Garcia also has a 0.00 in one inning pitched.  Casey Carr leads the team with his 14 strikeouts with Balentine, Maxwell Pappas and Kody Cardoza right behind him with 13.  Carr leads the team with his two victories.  Anthony Ramirez has two saves and Balentine has one. 

EVERY GAME:  Kyle Rachels has a 14-game reached base safely streak heading into this weekend's four-game series with Chico.  He had his seven-game hitting streak snapped in the series finale on Sunday with Cal State Monterey Bay.  Robert Valdivia has reached base safely in 11 straight games and has a six-game hitting streak.  JD Madrigal has a six-game hitting streak and six-game reached base safely streak.

18 FOR 19: The Warriors are 18-for-19 in stolen base attempts with Jacob Baker leading the way going eight-for-eight followed by Kyle Rachels' four-for-four in stolen base attempts.  Mac Cabero is two-for-two and Robert Valdivia, Jonluke Goldman, Ryan Leonesio and Luke Davies are a combined four-for-five in stolen base attempts. 

TOPS IN THE CCAA:  Eight Warriors are in the top five in the CCAA in some individual statistical categories.  Kyle Rachels is tied for first in doubles (7), second in runs scored (17), tied for fifth in stolen bases (four) and tied for ninth in home runs (two).  Flavio Perez is first in runs batted in (21), third in hits (19) and tied for third in doubles (six).  JD Madrigal is tied for third in triples (two) and tied for fifth in doubles (five).  Austin Balentine is tied for third in earned run average (0.60) and tied for fifth in saves).  Jacob Baker is second with eight stolen bases while Anthony Ramirez is tied for first with two saves and Casey Carr is tied for third with two wins. 

WILDCATS IN REVIEW: After having its four-game series at Cal State San Marcos rained out, Chico State is 5-4 overall and 0-0 in the CCAA.  The Wildcats are hitting .296 as a team with a 3.65 earned run average.  Jacob Jablonski leads the team with his .382 batting average, .706 slugging percentage, .500 on-base percentage, ten runs batted in, ten runs scored and three home runs.  Kaden Bass leads Chico with his three doubles and Kyle Dobson has the Wildcats' only triple.  Chico State is nine-for-eleven in stolen base attempts with three players each going two-for-two in Bass, Logan Drummond, and Andrew Crane.
Cody Gentry leads Chico State with his 1.04 earned run average and 2-1 record.  Jason Verdon has two of the Wildcats' four saves while Ethan Lay leads Chico with 15 strikeouts.

ALL TIME SERIES: Chico State leads the all-time series with the Warriors 42-18 including winning the last seven games in a row.  Stan State last defeated the Wildcats on Feb. 17, 2019, 2-0 in Chico.
