Stan State Returns to Southern California for a Four-Game CCAA Series at Cal State San Marcos

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Stan State returns to Southern California this weekend, March 31-April 2, for a four-game CCAA series with Cal State San Marcos.  The Warriors went 2-2 in their four-game home stand with Cal State Los Angeles are now 16=14 overall and 9-11 in the CCAA.  The series will start with a 3pm nine-inning game on Friday, March 31.  The two teams will continue the series on Saturday, April 1 with a noon starting doubleheader.  They will conclude the series with an 11am starting single game on Sunday, April 2. 

LAST WEEK AGAINST THE GOLDEN EAGLES:  Stan State split its four-game series with Cal State Los Angeles over the weekend losing the first two games and coming back to win the final two games.  The Warriors lost 9-4 on Friday evening and 4-2 in game one on Saturday afternoon.  They came back and took the night cap on Saturday 2-1 in nine innings and won the series finale 10-7 on Sunday afternoon.  They hit .268 as a team with five players hitting over .300 in Kyle Rachels (.400), Tyler V:an Dyk (.375), Alex Solis (.333), Mac Cabero (.313) and Jacob Baker (.300).  Ryan Leonesio scored a team leading four runs and Van Dyk drove home a team high four runs.  Rachels posted a a .467 slugging percentage while Jacob Baker had a team leading .533 on-base percentage.  Baker went three-for-three in stolen base attempts. 

The Warrior pitchers had a 4.50 team earned average.  Three pitchers had a 1.50 earned run average or lower with at least an inning pitched in Anthony Ramirez (0.00), Caleb Bertoncini (0.00) , and Casey Carr (1.50).  Ramirez had one of the Warriors' two wins with Damian Vallejos picking up the other Stan State victory. Ramirez also recorded a save. They struck out 27 batters with Tony Jacob leading the way with six in six innings pitched.  Maxwell Pappas and Bertoncini each had four strikeouts. 

WARRIORS IN REVIEW:  Stan State enters this weekend's four-game series with a 16-14 overall record and a 9-11 CCAA record.  They are hitting .264 as a team and a 4.49 earned run average. 

Four Warriors are hitting over .275 in Flavio Perez (.320), Tyler Van Dyk (.305), Alex Solis (.299), and Robert Valdivia (.278),  Perez leads the team with his 40 hits, 11 doubles, 25 runs batted in, and .520 slugging percentage.  He is tied with Van Dyk for the team lead in home runs with four.  There is a four-way tie for the lead in triples each with one in Perez, Jacob Baker, Ryan Leonesio and JD MadrigalKyle Rachels scored a team high 24 runs.  Van Dyk leads the team with his .411 on-base percentage and Baker has stolen a team high 12 bases.

Casey Carr leads the pitching staff with his 3-2 record.  Anthony Ramirez has recorded a team high four saves with Austin Balentine and Damian Vallejos with the other two.  Maxwell Pappas, Patrick Sweeney, Balentine, and Ramirez each recorded two wins. Pappas leads the team with his 35 strikeouts followed by Baletntine with 32, Carr with 30 and Tony Jacob with 24.

SITTING IN THE FINAL SPOT:  Heading into this weekend, Stan State sits in sixth place in the CCAA regular season standings.  The top six teams at the end of the regular season will receive a berth to the CCAA Baseball Championships, May 10-13, in Seaside, Calif., at Cal State Monterey Bay. The winner of the CCAA Baseball Championships will earn the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Division II Baseball Championships. 

Cal State Monterey Bay (16-4) holds the top spot followed by Cal State San Bernardino (11-6), Chico State (7-4), Cal State Dominguez Hills (8-5), Cal Poly Pomona (8-7) and Stan State (9-11).  The final five teams in the standings are San Francisco State (6-9), Cal State Los Angeles (5-9), Cal State East Bay (4-8), Sonoma State (2-7), and Cal State San Marcos (1-8). 

AMONGST THE TEAM LEADERS:  As a team, the Warriors are in the top five in the league in eight CCAA statistical categories.  Stan State leads the conference in strikeouts (240) and stolen bases (37).  They are second in doubles (59) and tied for second in saves (six).  Stan State is third in hits (275) and fifth in runs batted in (142), runs (162) and earned run average (4.47).

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS:  Eleven Warriors are amongst the leaders in the CCAA in individual statistical categories.  Kyle Rachels is sixth in runs scored (26), seventh in doubles (eight), eighth in hits (32) and tied for eighth in stolen bases (five).  Flavio Perez is second in hits (40), tied for fourth in runs batted in (25) and tied for tenth in home runs (four).  Maxwell Pappas is third in innings pitched (39.2) and tied for sixth in strikeouts (35). Casey Carr is tied for fifth in innings pitched (36.1) and tied for seventh in victories (three).  Anthony Ramirez is tied for third with four saves and Jacob Baker is second with 12 stolen bases.  JD Madrigal, Ryan Leonesio, Baker and Perez are tied for eighth with one triple.  Tyler Van Dyk is tied for tenth in home runs (four) and Leonesio is tied for eighth in stolen bases (five).  Mac Cabero is ninth in stolen bases (four) and Austin Balentine is tied for ninth with 32 strikeouts. 

STREAKS:  Robert Valdivia has reached base safely in his 11 straight games and Jacob Baker has in his last nine games.  Alex Solis had his 12-game hitting streak snapped last week and JD Madrigal had his eight-game hitting streak snapped.  Flavio Pere has 15 multiple-hit games and eight multiple-RBI games.  Tyler Van Dyk has 11 and Kyle Rachels has 10 multiple-hit games.

UPDATE ON CAL STATE SAN MARCOS: Heading into their game on Tuesday with Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State San Marcos is 7-12 overall and 1-8 in the CCAA. The Cougars are hitting .286 as a team with Niko Diaz (.385) and Luke Reece (.371) leading the way.  Diaz leads the team with his 14 runs scored, and 25 hits.  Reece has a team leading nine doubles and five stolen bases with a team high .597 slugging and .494 on-base percentage.   CSUSM has a 7.76 earned run average with Josh Kim leading the way with his 3-1 record.  Pat MacDonald Jr. has a team low 4.56 earned run average.  Conner Gleissner leads the team with his 19 strikeouts.  Preston Kelly has CSUSM's only save. 

ALL-TIME SERIES:  Cal State San Marcos leads the all-time series with the Warriors 8-4.  The Cougars took three out of four from Stan State last season in Turlock winning 10-6, 9-7 and 8-4 and losing 6-0.  Ryan Leonesio went two-for-two with two runs scored in the Warriors' 6-0 victory.  Casey Carr pitched a two-hit complete game shutout in seven innings while striking out three and walking four.
