Warriors Return Home to Face No. 5 CSUSB In Four-Game Series

TURLOCK, Calif.---  After splitting its four-game series at Chico State, the Stan State Warriors will return home to face No. 5 Cal State San Bernardino in a four-game series this weekend, March 10-12, at Warrior Baseball Field in Turlock.  The two teams will start the series with a single nine-inning game at 6pm this Friday, March 10.  The series will continue with a 1pm starting doubleheader on Saturday, March 11.  Stan State will conclude its four-game series with the Yotes with a noon starting game on Sunday, March 12. 

LAST WEEKEND:  Stan State started their series at Chico State with a sweep of the Wildcats on Friday 5-4 and 11-5.  The Wildcats came back on Saturday to sweep the Warriors 7-1 and 6-4 to split the weekend series.  The Warriors hit .271 for the weekend while scoring 21 runs and hitting eleven extra-base hits (nine doubles and two home runs).  They drove in 15 runs and were eight-for-eight in stolen bases.  Four Warriors hit over .330 in Alex Solis (.471), Flavio Perez (.412), Jacob Baker (.333) and Tyler Van Dyk (.333).  Solis had eight hits, drove in six runs, had two stolen bases, and posted a .500 on-base percentage and a .588 slugging percentage.  The trio of Solis, Van Dyk and Perez each scored four runs.  Baker had a team leading three doubles and Van Dyk and Robert Valdivia each had a solo home run.

Stan State's pitching staff was led by relievers Anthony Ramirez, Noah Chelberg and LaKeal Morris who each posted a 0.00 earned run average (ERA) in five combined innings.  They struck out four batters while Ramirez recorded a save.  Casey Carr and Austin Balentine picked up the Warrior victories.  Carr had eight strikeouts in four innings and Balentine had four in 4.1 innings pitched. 

UPDATE ON THE WARRIORS: Stan State is 10-8 overall and 3-5 in the CCAA after splitting its four-game series at Chico.  The Warriors are hitting .261 as a team while their opponents are hitting .247.  Three players are hitting over .300 in Tyler Van Dyk (.340), Flavio Perez (.333) and Alex Solis (.325).  Van Dyk leads the team with his .532 slugging and .466 on-base percentages.  He is tied with Kyle Rachels each with two home runs.  Rachels leads the team with his 15 runs scored while Perez has driven in a team leading 16 runs.  Perez has hit a team high seven doubles and has a team leading 24 hits.  JD Madrigal, Jacob Baker and Ryan Leonesio each have a triple.  The Warriors are 26-for-27 in stolen base attempts with Baker going nine-for-nine, Rachels four-for-four and Mac Cabero three-for-three.

Stan State's pitching staff has a team earned run average (ERA) of 4.87.  Noah Chelberg leads the way with a 0.00 ERA in 9.1 innings pitched.  Casey Carr leads the team with his 22 strikeouts while Maxwell Pappas has 18 and Austin Balentine 17.  Carr has 22 strikeouts to go with his nine walks and Pappas has 18 strikeouts with nine walks and Balentine 17 strikeouts and nine walks.  Tony Jacob has 11 strikeouts with just three walks in 15 innings pitched a 1.20 ERA.  Carr has three of the Warriors' ten victories and Anthony Ramirez has three of the Warriors' four saves. 

EIGHT:  Alex Solis hit safely in the Warriors' last eight games in a row.  JD Madrigal had his eight-game hitting streak snapped while Kyle Rachels had his seven-game hitting streak snapped in Chico. 

15 STRAIGHT:  Robert Valdivia has reached base safely in the Warriors' last 15 games while Alex Solis has reached safely in the last nine games.  Kyle Rachels had his 17-game reach safely streak snapped in the series finale against Chico on Saturday. 

26-for-27: Stan State is 26-for-27 in stolen base attempts this season.  Jacob Baker leads the way going nine-for-nine while Kyle Rachels is four-for-four.  Mac Cabero is three-for-three and three Warriors are two-for-two in Alexi Solis, Ryan Leonesio and Robert Valdivia.

AMONGST CCAA LEADERS: Eight Warriors are amongst the CCAA leaders either in hitting or pitching statistics.  Flavio Perez leads the CCAA with his eight doubles and is second with 26 hits and tied for third with 21 RBIs.  Anthony Ramirez leads the conference with his three saves.  Casey Carr is tied for third with his three victories and is tied for seventh with 22 strikeouts while he is ninth in innings pitched (21.1).  Maxwell Pappas is second with his 25 innings pitched and his tied for fourth with 24 strikeouts and tied for eighth in opponents batting average (.206).  Kyle Rachels is tied for fifth with his 23 hits, sixth with his 17 runs scored and tied for ninth with his seven doubles.  Jacob Baker is second with nine stolen bases, JD Madrigal is tied for sixth with six doubles and Austin Balentine is seventh in opponents' batting average (.189).

YOTES IN REVIEW:  The fifth ranked Cal State San Bernardino Yotes are 13-1 and 4-0 in the CCAA after sweeping Cal State San Marcos this weekend (10-5, 11-10, 11-2, 7-2).  The Yotes' only loss was a 7-3 loss at No. 12 Point Loma on February 17.  They are hitting .338 as a team while their opponents are hitting .338.  DeShawn Johnson leads the way with his .521 batting average, 28 runs scored, 25 hits, .750 slugging percentage and .636 on-base percentage.  Johnson is tied with Danny Garcia each with three stolen bases. Darryl Ruiz has driven in a team high 25 runs. As a team, CSUSB has hit 27 home runs as Ruiz leads the way with six and three Yotes have hit four home runs each in Giovanni Del Negro, Garrett Macias and Jake Borst. Garcia leads the team with his four doubles and Del Negro has a team high four triples. 

The Yotes have a 4.31 team earned run average (ERA).  Austyn Coleman leads the way with his 3.38 ERA and 4-0 record.  Dylan O'Connor has struck out a team leading 29 strikeouts with just six walks and his 3-0.  Oscar Rauda has recorded three saves. 

ALL-TIME SERIES: Stan State leads the all-time series 22-18.  CSUSB took three of the four games last season in San Bernardino.  The Warriors won the series opener 7-5 behind Maxwell Pappas' eight strikeouts in seven innings. Ryan Leonesio was two-for-five, scoring two runs and stealing a base.  The Warriors swept the series the last time the two teams played in Turlock in 2019.
