FRESNO, Calif.--- Both of the Stan State men's and women's outdoor track and field teams began their season today at the Sunbird Invitational in Fresno, Calif. Of their over forty top ten finishes, the Warriors captured eight events led by
Ero Doce capturing the 800, 1500, and 3000-meter run.
Najwa Chouati won the 1500 and 3000 meter run while
Annie Wild captured the 800-meter run.
Reyna Dismukes won the triple jump and
Alfred Nunes captured the pole vault.
"Great job by all event areas….our coaches have prepared them well and we all look forward to future opportunities to show the work building to conference championships in May," said Stan State head coach
Troy Johnson.
Running in his first meet as a Stan State Warrior,
Ero Doce provisionally qualified for the 2024 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in late May with a first-place time of 3:47.94 in the 1500-meter run. His time is the third fastest time in school history. Doce also is now seventh in Stan State history in the 800-meter run with his first-place time of 1:51.80.
Reyna Dismukes moved into the top ten list in the long jump with her jump of 5.46m (17-11) that placed her second in today's field in Fresno.
OTHER TEAMS AT THE SUNBIRD: Among the teams that the Warriors competed against today were Cal State Bakersfield, Fresno Pacific, Fresno State, and UC Merced.
UP NEXT: Stan State will return to outdoor competition, March 1-2, when the Warriors host the Kim Duyst Invitational at the Al Brenda Track at Warrior Stadium. During the competition on March 2, the Warriors will recognize their seniors in
Isabel Arrizano,
Caitlyn Bell,
Najwa Chouati,
Ero Doce,
Jason Lindsay, and
Shaylynn Wynn.
