Baseball Travels to San Bernardino for Four-Game Series at No. 11 CSUSB

TURLOCK, Calif.---  After starting the series with thirteen games at Warrior Field, Stan State will have its first road series of the season this Friday-Sunday, March 1-3 in San Bernardino.  The Warriors will face the No. 11 Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes in a four-game series at Fiscalini Field in San Bernardino.  The series will start with a 2:00 p.m. single game on Friday.  The two teams will play a noon starting doubleheader on Saturday.  They will conclude the series with a 11:00 a.m. single game on Sunday.  
 
WARRIORS:  Stan State enters the contest 5-7-1 overall and 1-3 in the CCAA after its four-game CCAA series with Cal State Dominguez Hills.  The Warriors lost 10-2 on Friday and then were swept by the Toros 5-2 and 14-4 before taking the series finale 5-4.  They are hitting .268 as a team with a 6.19 earned run average.  
 
STAN STATE HITTERS:  Six Warriors are hitting .300 or higher in Ryan Leonesio (.412), Alex Solis (.391), Tyler Van Dyk (.375), Chris Catalano (326), Kyle Rachels (.326), and Jonluke Goldman (.300).  Solis leads the Warriors with his 15 hits and five doubles.  Solis is tied with Catalano and Rachels each with a team leading eight runs scored.  Rachels has driven in a team high 11 runs to go with his two home runs.  Leonesio has a .588 slugging percentage and Jackson Brooks has a team leading .583 on-base percentage.  
 
WARRIOR PITCHERS:  Austin Balentine and Will Crookham each have recorded two victories to lead the Warrior pitching staff.  Tony Jacob has struck out a team high 14 batters.  Trent Huff leads the pitching staff with his 4.32 earned run average.  
 
CSUDH 3-1:  Stan State went 1-3 against the Toros in their CCAA opening series at Warrior Field over the weekend.  The Warriors hit .244 with four players hitting over .300 in Jerry Nix (.500), Robert Valdivia (.333), JD Madrigal (.333), and Chris Catalano (.308).  Valdivia had a team leading five hits and was tied with Tyler Van Dyk each with two doubles.  Alexis Solis scored three runs and Mac Cabero drove in three runs to lead the way for Stan State.  Austin Balentine picked up the Warrior victory in relief.  Stan State pitchers struck out 32 Toro hitters including six by JoJo Keldsen and five by Patrick Sweeny.  Caleb Bertocini and Tony Jacob each had five strikeouts. The Warriors' 5-4 series finale victory was on a Chris Catalano walk-off single which brought in Jackson Brooks in the bottom of the ninth. 
 
NO. 11 COYOTES:  The 11th ranked Cal State San Bernardino went 1-3 at San Francisco State this weekend to fall to 8-6 overall and 1-3 in the CCAA.  The Coyotes two games on walk-offs 3-2 and 5-4 along with a 4-1 series finale loss. Their win was a 2-1 victory in game two on Saturday.  CSUSB is hitting .259 as a team with a 2.66 earned run average.  Daniel Garcia Jr. leads the way with his .419 batting average, 18 hits, and five doubles.  Tyler Vanneste has driven in a team leading 14 runs while Giovanni Del Negro and Darryl Ruiz each lead the team with their ten runs scored.  Luke Hempel is 2-1 while Dylan O'Connor has struck out a team high 24 batters.  Benny Olguin has a team low 0.81 earned run average with John Pfeffer with two saves. 
 
SERIES:  The Warriors lead the all-time series with the Coyotes 28-23,but CSUSB won the series last year in Turlock 3-1.  Stan State took the first game 3-2 on a Danny Murphy walk-off single in the tenth inning.  Austin Balentine pitched 2.1 innings of relief, striking out seven and giving up one hit.  CSUSB took game two 7-6 despite Tyler Van Dyk going two-for-five with four runs batted in including a three-run home run.  The Coyotes took game three 5-0 before taking the series finale 8-5.  In the series finale, Mac Cabero was two-for-four with a home run and Robert Valdivia was two-for-four with two runs scored a run driven in.

UP NEXT:  Stan State will return home, March 8-10, for a four-game series with Valley rival Chico State.  The series will begin with a 6pm starting single game on March 8.  The two teams will play a 1pm starting doubleheader on March 9.  They will conclude the series on March 10 for a noon starting series finale.
