Warrior Men Hold No. 9 Spot in USTFCCCA West Region Rankings

NEW ORLEANS, La.--- For the second straight week, the Stan State men's cross country team, coached by Darren Holman, is ranked ninth in the West Region in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) regional rankings released Tuesday.

The entire West Region top 10 remained unchanged from last week. Chico State continues to hold the top spot, followed by Western Washington, Cal Poly Pomona, Western Oregon and Cal State San Marcos. Stan State is one of four CCAA programs in the top 10 along with Chico State, Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Marcos.

National Poll Coming Wednesday
The next USTFCCCA NCAA Division II national coaches' poll is scheduled to be released Wednesday.

Warriors Await Return to Competition
Stan State has not competed since placing third at the Kim Duyst Twilight on Sept. 12 at River Oaks Golf Course in Ceres. The Warriors totaled 51 points and were the top NCAA Division II team in the 10-team field, finishing behind only NCAA Division I programs UC Santa Barbara and CSUN.
Jackson Oliveira, who was the FloCollege/CCAA Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week, led Stan State by finishing second overall and first among collegiate runners in 24:05.5 over the 8K course. Mason Oliveira was fourth in 24:29.6, while Gurdave Pandher placed 12th in 24:52.1.

Rankings Schedule
The remaining USTFCCCA West Region rankings are scheduled for Oct. 13, Oct. 20, Oct. 28, Nov. 10 and Nov. 25, with the final regional rankings scheduled for Dec. 4. The remaining national coaches' polls are scheduled for Oct. 14, Oct. 21, Oct. 28, Nov. 11 and Nov. 26, with the final national poll scheduled for Dec. 5.

Up Next
The Warriors return to competition Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Bronco Invitational at Baylands Regional Course in Sunnyvale. The Men's Invitational will begin at 8:45 a.m., followed by the Women's Invitational at 9:30 a.m., Men's Open at 10:15 a.m. and Women's Open at 11 a.m.

The Bronco Invitational will be the Warriors' final race before the postseason begins with the CCAA Cross Country Championships on Nov. 7 in San Bernardino. The NCAA Division II West Regional is scheduled for Nov. 21 at the Arcade Creek Cross Country Course in Sacramento, followed by the NCAA Division II National Championship on Dec. 4 at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence, Kansas.
