TURLOCK, Calif. — Freshman distance runner
Izzy Soto has been named the FloCollege/CCAA Female Track Athlete of the Week after a record-setting performance at the Fresno Pacific Sunbird Invitational, held Feb. 20–21.
Competing against a strong field, Soto turned in two collegiate-best performances and claimed a pair of event titles.
At the Sunbird Invitational, Soto posted a winning time of 2:14.90 in the 800 meters, marking a new collegiate best while finishing first overall in the event. She followed that effort with another victory in the 1500 meters, crossing the line in a collegiate-best 4:36.07 to complete an impressive weekend sweep. Both times would have placed Soto on the podium during last May's CCAA Track & Field Championships.
Soto is also a member of Stan State's distance medley relay team that has provisionally qualified for the 2025-26 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships, set for March 12–14 in Virginia Beach, Va. The quartet of
Crystal Hernandez,
Mila Real,
Izzy Soto and
Annie Wild recorded a time of 11:38.87 at the 2026 Husky Classic on Feb. 13, which currently ranks ninth in NCAA Division II this season. The official championship field will be announced March 3.
During the cross country season, Soto earned All-CCAA honors and was named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team. She was also a member of the Stan State squad that placed 12th at the NCAA Division II Women's Cross Country Championships.
Stan State will return to action March 6–7 as the Warriors host the Kim Duyst Invitational at Al Brenda Track at Warrior Stadium in Turlock. The meet begins Friday at 10 a.m. and continues Saturday at 9 a.m.
