CLOVIS, Calif. — Stan State returns to action March 27–28, traveling to Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis, Calif., to compete in the West Coast Relays, hosted by Fresno State. Competition begins Friday at 1 p.m. with the hammer throw before continuing Saturday with a full day of field events starting at 10 a.m. and running events beginning at 11:45 a.m.
Competitive Field in Clovis
Hosted by Fresno State, the West Coast Relays will feature a strong mix of NCAA Division I and II programs, including UC Merced, Fresno State, Dominican, Fresno Pacific, Jessup, Cal Poly, Cal State Bakersfield, UC Davis, San José State, Santa Clara and Pacific, along with Stan State and other collegiate programs. The meet is also expected to include competitors from NCAA Division III, NAIA and junior college programs.
Last Time Out
Stan State turned in a strong showing in the throws at the Mark Conover Classic, highlighted by
Alexis Nino and
Mason Phillips. Nino posted NCAA provisional marks in both the hammer (177-10) and shot put (47-1), ranking among the top 10 nationally in both events while moving to No. 2 all-time in program history in the shot put. She also added a top-10 program mark in the discus (127-8) to cap an impressive all-around performance.
On the men's side, Phillips recorded a career-best 53-6.5 (16.32m) in the shot put to move into eighth all-time at Stan State, while also contributing in the hammer and discus.
Christopher Ruiz (152-11),
Justice McDermott (152-6) and
Joel Pitts (151-2) led the javelin group, with
Donielle Willis,
Sienna Hawkins and Grace Langenfeld adding depth on the women's side.
Nino Hits NCAA Provisional Marks
Stan State's
Alexis Nino recorded NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks in both the shot put and hammer throw at the Mark Conover Classic, and currently ranks sixth nationally in the shot put with a mark of 14.35m (47-1) and eighth in the hammer throw at 54.20m (177-10), solidifying her status as one of the top all-around throwers in the country heading into the outdoor season.
CCAA Leaders — Women
Stan State has placed multiple athletes among the top eight in the CCAA this season, led by
Alexis Nino, who ranks first in both the shot put (14.35m / 47-1) and hammer throw (54.20m / 177-10), while also sitting eighth in the discus. In the distance events,
Izzy Soto ranks second in the 1500 meters (4:36.07), with
Megan Silva sixth, while Silva (3rd) and Soto (4th) also rank among the top performers in the 800 meters.
Ahlia Albergottie sits third in the 400-meter hurdles (1:04.22), and
Reyna Dismukes ranks fourth in the long jump (5.62m) and fifth in the triple jump (11.42m).
CCAA Leaders — Men
Stan State has also placed several athletes among the top eight in the CCAA, led by
Mason Phillips, who ranks second in the shot put (16.32m / 53-6.5) and third in the discus (46.02m / 151-0), while also sitting sixth in the hammer throw.
Luke Giannotta (3rd) and
Logan Edwards (5th) also rank among the top performers in the hammer throw, while
Ivan Mendoza sits second in the long jump (7.17m / 23-6¼). On the track,
Andrew Bishop ranks fifth in the 100 meters (10.62) and seventh in the 200 meters (21.42), and the 4x100 relay team of Mendoza, Siebert, Sawyer and Bishop is fourth in the conference (40.86).
FloCollege/CCAA Athletes of the Week
Stan State has earned multiple FloCollege/CCAA Track & Field Athlete of the Week honors this season, highlighted by
Izzy Soto being named Track Athlete of the Week (Feb. 16–22) and
Alexis Nino earning Field Athlete of the Week honors twice (Feb. 16–22, March 16–22).
Warrior Record Book Watch
Several Warriors have already made their mark in the Stan State record book during the 2026 outdoor season.
On the men's side,
Andrew Bishop has moved into the top 10 in both sprint events, ranking fourth all-time in the 100 meters (10.62) and seventh in the 200 meters (21.42). In the field events,
Mason Phillips now sits eighth all-time in the shot put (53-6.5 / 16.32m), while
Ivan Mendoza ranks fifth in program history in the long jump (23-6¼ / 7.17m). The 4x100 relay team of Mendoza, Siebert, Sawyer and Bishop has also moved into fourth all-time (40.86), with an additional 4x400 relay entry placing among the program's top times.
Justice McDermott has also entered the record book in the javelin, ranking 10th all-time (160-7 / 48.86m).
On the women's side,
Alexis Nino has moved to second all-time in the shot put (47-1 / 14.35m), continuing her rise among the program's top throwers.
Stevie Holguin has also entered the top 10 in the 3000 meters, ranking seventh all-time (10:10.00), while
Ahlia Albergottie now sits 10th in program history in the 400-meter hurdles (1:04.22).

Friday: Hammer Throw Opens Competition
Stan State opens competition Friday afternoon in the hammer throw, beginning at 1 p.m.

Saturday: Full Day of Competition
The Warriors return Saturday for a full day of competition, beginning with field events at 10 a.m. and running events at 11:45 a.m.

Up Next
Following the West Coast Relays, Stan State will split competition the weekend of April 3–4 between the Brutus Hamilton Invitational (Berkeley), Mike Fanelli Track Classic (San Francisco) and Stanford Invitational.
The Warriors will then compete at multiple meets April 16–18, including the Bryan Clay Invitational (Azusa), Mt. SAC Relays (Walnut) and Leopard Invitational (La Verne), before turning their focus to the CCAA Track & Field Championships (April 30–May 2) in San Marcos.
Stan State will continue to position athletes to qualify for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, with the national field set to be announced May 12 on NCAA.com. The championships, hosted by Emporia State University, will take place May 21–23 at Welch Stadium in Emporia, Kansas.
