Men’s Golf Set to Host 51st Annual Hanny Stanislaus Invitational

TURLOCK, Calif. — The Stan State men's golf team returns home to host the 51st Annual Hanny Stanislaus Invitational April 13–14 at the par-72 Turlock Golf & Country Club. Both days will feature 8 a.m. shotgun starts. As the Warriors' lone home event of the season, the two-day tournament provides a key opportunity for Stan State to compete on familiar ground while continuing to build momentum ahead of the CCAA Championships later this month.  Following Tuesday's final round and awards ceremony, Stan State will recognize senior Chase Bird for his contributions to the program.

Stan State Places Fifth at Coyote Classic Behind Bascom's Top-10 Finish
Stan State is coming off a fifth-place finish at the Coyote Classic, held March 23–24 at Oak Valley Golf Club, posting a 17-over 881. Owen Bascom led the Warriors with an even-par 216 to finish tied for eighth, while Carson Diaz (221) and Chase Bird (222) also placed inside the top 30. Ricky Sullivan (227) and Riley Kirk (231) rounded out the lineup as the Warriors competed against a strong field that included multiple regionally ranked programs.

Tournament Field
The 51st Annual Hanny Stanislaus Invitational features an 11-team field including host Stan State, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Chico State, Cal State Monterey Bay, Cal State San Bernardino, Cal State East Bay, Cal State San Marcos, Menlo College, Jessup University, Dominican University of California and Western Washington.

The field includes several CCAA programs along with top teams from across the West Region, providing a competitive test as teams continue to position themselves ahead of the postseason.

NCAA Regional Rankings
In the latest NCAA Division II regional rankings released March 27, Stan State is just outside the top 10 in the West Region as the postseason picture continues to take shape.

Cal State East Bay holds the top spot in the West Region, followed by Western Washington, Simon Fraser, Hawai'i Hilo and Cal State San Bernardino. Chico State, Cal State Monterey Bay, Cal State San Marcos, Dominican and Hawai'i Pacific round out the top 10, with Vanguard at No. 11.

In the South Central Region, Colorado Mesa leads the rankings, followed by St. Mary's (Texas), Dallas Baptist, West Texas A&M and UT Permian Basin. Colorado State Pueblo, UT Tyler, Cameron, Colorado Christian, Midwestern State and Colorado School of Mines complete the top 11.

The top 10 teams from each region will receive a bid to the NCAA Division II West/South Central Regional.
Selections for the NCAA Division II Championships will be announced April 28 on NCAA.com. The NCAA Division II West/South Central Regional is scheduled for May 7–9 at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton, Calif.

SCOREBOARD Rankings (sponsored by Clippd)
According to the latest SCOREBOARD (sponsored by Clippd) rankings, Stan State is ranked No. 13 in the West Region. Western Washington leads the region, followed by Cal State East Bay, Hawai'i Hilo, Chico State and Cal State San Bernardino.

Simon Fraser, Cal State Monterey Bay, Cal State San Marcos, Dominican and Vanguard round out the top 10, with Hawai'i Pacific (No. 11) and Cal State Dominguez Hills (No. 12) just ahead of the Warriors.
Nationally, Western Washington is ranked No. 22, followed by Cal State East Bay (No. 26), Hawai'i Hilo (No. 28) and Chico State (No. 29).

Warriors Representing
Stan State will be represented by Owen Bascom, Riley Kirk, Ricky Sullivan, Carson Diaz, and Chase Bird. Jesse Verheul and Ethan Gonsalves will be playing as individuals. Stan State will be paired with Cal State East Bay and Western Washington.  The Warriors will start off on holes one through three. There two individuals will be paried on hole 17 (Verheul) and 18 (Gonsalves). 

Senior Spotlight
Stan State will honor senior Chase Bird following Tuesday's final round. A key contributor throughout his career, Bird has competed in eight events this season, totaling 23 rounds with a 75.7 scoring average. He is coming off a tie for 29th finish at the Coyote Classic and has recorded multiple solid showings throughout the year, while also finishing 11th at the CSU San Marcos Fujikura Invitational during his career.

In addition to his performance on the course, Bird has been a standout in the classroom, earning Department Honor Roll recognition in both the fall and spring semesters while being named to the CCAA All-Academic Team, CCAA Spring Academic Honor Roll and receiving D2ADA Academic Achievement honors.

Last Year's Results
Stan State finished fifth at the 50th Annual Hanny Stanislaus Invitational with a 2-under par 862. Jack Peters led the Warriors with a 5-under 211, finishing in a three-way tie for seventh, while Ricky Sullivan added a top-25 finish at even-par 216.

Cal State Monterey Bay captured the team title at 18-under 846, followed by Chico State (-16) and Western Washington (-14), with Cal State East Bay finishing fourth. Western Washington's David Sibbett earned medalist honors at
12-under 204.

The tournament featured a split format, with the opening rounds played at Merced Golf & Country Club and the final round contested at Turlock Golf & Country Club.

Stan State will compete at the CCAA Championships April 20–22 at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton, Calif.  The NCAA Division II West/South Central Regional is scheduled for May 7–9, also at The Reserve at Spanos Park. The NCAA Division II National Championships will be held May 18–22 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev.
