NEW ORLEANS, La.--- The Stan State women's cross country team, coached by
Darren Holman, remains ranked second in the West Region for the third straight week in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) regional rankings.
Chico State remains No. 1 in the West Region, followed by Stan State, Biola, Cal Poly Pomona and CUI. Western Washington is sixth, followed by Cal State Monterey Bay, Central Washington, Northwest Nazarene and Vanguard.
Stan State is one of four CCAA teams ranked in the West Region top 10, joining Chico State, Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State Monterey Bay.
National Rankings
In the most recent USTFCCCA NCAA Division II national rankings, which were released two weeks ago, Stan State was tied for No. 11 in the nation with Lewis. The next national coaches' poll is scheduled to be released Wednesday.
Last Time Out
Stan State is coming off the team championship at the Kim Duyst Twilight on Saturday, Sept. 26, at River Oaks Golf Course in Ceres. The Warriors scored 22 points to win the seven-team race, finishing 11 points ahead of NCAA Division I UC Santa Barbara and capturing their second consecutive Kim Duyst Twilight team title.
Stevie Holguin captured the individual title in the 6K with a time of 20:41.4.
Kekaihulali Halpern placed third in 20:51.9, followed by
Annie Wild in fourth (21:00.3) and freshman
Natalie Arriaza in fifth (21:05.7).
Izzy Soto completed the scoring five with a ninth-place finish (21:41.7), giving Stan State all five scorers among the top nine.
For her performance, Holguin was named the FloCollege/CCAA Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the second consecutive week.
Next Rankings
The next USTFCCCA West Region rankings are scheduled to be released Oct. 6.

The Warriors will be off from competition until Saturday, Oct. 17, when they return to action at the Bronco Invitational at Baylands Regional Course in Sunnyvale. The women's race is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
Stan State will begin postseason competition at the CCAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 7, at the CSUSB Cross Country Course in San Bernardino, with the women's race scheduled for 11 a.m. The NCAA Division II West Regional will follow on Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Arcade Creek Cross Country Course in Sacramento. The NCAA Division II National Championship is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 4, at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence, Kansas.
