TURLOCK — The ninth inning magic continues for the Warriors baseball team.
Jacob Thelen doubled to right-center field to score pinch runner
Tomas Donnelly with one out in the home half of the ninth as Cal State Stanislaus took game one of the four-game set over Cal State San Bernardino, 5-4, Friday afternoon at Warrior Baseball Field.
The No. 26 ranked Warriors improved to 23-8 overall and 15-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Stanislaus is now 11-2 in one-run games and is 18-3 at home this season. Cal State San Bernardino dropped to 13-17 overall and 4-13 in the CCAA.
The Warriors kept the game at 4-4 in the eighth inning after the Coyotes threatened. CSUSB got two on with a walk and a hit-batsman with one out, but
Josh Lewis got Olsen to strike out and
Andrew DeMott fanned Watson to the end inning.
The game remained 4-4 until the last of the ninth with Hughes leading off with a single up the middle. Donnelly pinch ran for Hughes and after a
Tom Long sac bunt to move Donnelly to second, Thelen drove in the game-winner.
