CARSON — Host Cal State Dominguez Hills rallied for all seven runs in late innings as the Toros edged Cal State Stanislaus, 7-6, in the opener of a California Collegiate Athletic Association series on Friday.
The Toros scored three runs in the sixth, and two runs apiece in the seventh and eighth innings, for the come from behind win. Cal State Dominguez Hills improved 18-25 overall and 14-11 in the CCAA. The Warriors dropped to 25-14 and 17-8 in conference play.
Stanislaus starter
Andrew Stueve was cruising along early in the game allowing just three hits through the first five innings. He gave up three runs in the home half of the sixth on three hits and two Warrior errors.
Andrew DeMott pitched the final one-plus innings and got the loss after giving up two unearned runs on just one hit.
Kyle Loretelli went 2-for-5 with a double and drove in three runs and
Jake Oketani went 2-for-4 with a triple to lead the Warrior offense, which pounded out 13 hits.
Jeff Bellotti,
Chase Perez and
David Contreras each had two hits as well.
With two outs in the eighth and a runner on, CSUDH's Carols Leyva reached on a fielding error by the Warrior shortstop Bellotti which extended the inning. Leyva then stolen second and both runners would score on a Kevin Pillar single up the middle for the go-ahead score.
The series continues on Saturday with a doubleheader in Carson beginning at 11 a.m.
