LOS ANGELES -- The Cal State Stanislaus baseball team dominated the first game of a doubleheader beating Cal State L.A. 18-4, but failed to keep the momentum dropping the nightcap 5-2. With the split the Warriors are now 4-6 overall (1-2 CCAA), while the Golden Eagles are 4-5 (2-1 CCAA)
The Warriors got off to hot start on Saturday, opening up a 5-0 lead in the second inning.
John Canepa and
Kory Vitato each collected two RBI hits and
Corey Conflenti added an RBI double to finish the scoring.
The Warriors added single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings taking an 8-3 lead into the eighth inning. Then they busted the game wide open scoring 10 runs on six hits, taking advantage of four walks and two hit batsmen in the top of the eighth.
Vitato finished game one going 4-for-6 with four runs and five runs batted in.
Andrew Graves collected four hits and tallied three RBI. Conflenti,
David Contreras and
Alex Zanini each added two RBI's a piece for the Warriors offensive onslaught.
Andrew Stueve pitched 6.2 innings surrendering three earned runs and striking out six to earn his first victory of the season.
Game two started off well for the Warriors as a one out single by
Vince Hungerford scored Vitato from third base for an early 1-0 lead. The Warriors added another run in the third on a solo home run from Conflenti.
But the Golden Eagles struck back with two runs in the bottom half of the third and then added two more in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead. They added an insurance run in fifth inning and went on to a 5-2 victory.
Vinny Pacchetti took the loss for the Warriors, giving up three earned runs on six hits in just 3.1 innings of work.
The Warriors pounded out 18 hits in game one, but managed just three in game two.
The two teams will finish their four game series Sunday with a single game beginning at noon.
