LOS ANGELES -- The Cal State Stanislaus baseball team appeared to be on its way to earn a series split on the road against Cal State L.A., but the Golden Eagles all of a sudden exploded to win the game and the series on Sunday.
Cal State L.A. scored seven runs after the seventh inning stretch to over take the Warriors to win 10-4 to imrpove to 5-5 overall and 3-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
The Warriors dropped to 4-7 overall and 1-3 in the CCAA.
Stanislaus starter
Eric Cendejas was cruising along as he was pitching a no-hitter and facing the minimum through four innings. Cendejas retired the first nine batters he faced before walking the leadoff batter in the fourth. He immediately managed to get a double-play grounder and another groundout to end the inning.
With the Warriors leading 4-0, Cal State L.A. picked up its first hit with one out in the fifth.
The Golden Eagles would score a run in the fifth and two in the sixth before knocking in seven off Warrior pitchers Cendejas and relievers
Derek Eaton and
Chris Anklam.
The Warriors scored two runs in the fourth with RBIs by
Andrew Graves and
Casey Filkins. Stanislaus scored two unearned runs in the fifth when
Kory Vitato came around after a double and
Corey Conflenti scoring on a single by
Joey Blakely.
Vitato finished 2-for-3 with a double and Blakely went 2-for-4. Cendejas suffered the loss going 6 1/3 innings and allowed seven runs on seven hits. He struck out three and walked three.
