HAYWARD — Cal State East Bay got to Stanislaus starter early and held off late Warrior rallies to earn a series split after winning 7-6 Monday afternoon.

The game was played after the two teams completed game three of the four-game series with the Warriors getting three outs in the top of the seventh inning to win 11-6. The game was halted late Sunday due to darkness in Turlock.

In the final game of the series, Corey Conflenti went 2-for-4 with a double and a first inning two-run home run, but the Warriors came up short to fall to 6-9 overall and 3-5 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The Warriors are now just 1-7 on the road.

Trailing 7-2, the Warriors scored two in the seventh and one in each of the final two innings before being stooped. David Contreras, the game's tying run was at second base with two outs before a ground out ended the game.

Contreras had doubled in Conflenti in the seventh. Conflenti doubled to left to start the inning, but CSUEB's Devin Grigg got two consecutive strikeouts -- against the Warriors No. 3 and No. 4 batters in the lineup.

Derek Eaton got the loss on the mound after allowing five runs on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings. The Warriors defense also didn't help the cause by committing three errors. Of the seven runs allowed by the pitching staff, only three were earned.

Reliever Leonard Giammanco kept East Bay from scoring for four-plus innings to allow the Warriors to come back. Giammanco pitched 4 1/3 innings and gave up just one unearned run on seven hits.

In the continuation of the earlier game, reliever Phillip Quade had little trouble finishing off the Pioneers, getting a strikeout and a ground out before a single to right. The got a pop-up to the catcher to end the game to secure the win.

In the game that started late Sunday afternoon, the Warriors hung a five-spot in the first with four hits and three walks off CSUEB starter John Volk. Alex Zanini and Casey Filkins each drove in runs to spark the offense early. Both Zanini and Filkins had three hits apiece in the game before it was called.

Trailing 5-1, CSUEB put on a charge in the fifth with a two-out grand slam homer by Nick McManus to take a 6-5 lead.

The Warriors, however, answered right back with three runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings to regain the advantage. Filkins again was in the middle of both rallies with a RBI single in the fifth and a run scoring suicide squeeze play in the sixth.

Stanislaus starter Kory Wallace sat down the first eight batters in order and 10 of the first 11 before East Bay scored a run in the fourth. None of the six runs he allowed were earned.
