TURLOCK — The streaking Gators scored early and fought hard in the late innings to hold off a strong rally by the Warriors as visiting San Francisco State took game one of the four-game series, 6-4, at Warrior Baseball Field on Thursday.

The Gators continue their hot streak by winning their fourth straight to improve to 16-18 overall and 9-12 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. SF State had beaten then-No. 8 Chico State three out of four last weekend entering the series against Stanislaus.

The Warriors had their four-game winning streak snapped Thursday and fall to 15-15 overall and 11-10 in conference play.

San Francisco State also snapped a 10-game losing skid to Cal State Stanislaus dating back three seasons. The Warriors had swept the Gators each of the last two years.

Today was a little different story as SFSU took an early 1-0 lead that Stanislaus tied up in the home half of  the first. However, the Gators put together four runs on three hits in the third that was highlighted by a two-run, two-out single by Greg Kline to give SFSU a 5-1 lead.

Cal State Stanislaus would rally, trailing 6-1, in the sixth by getting back two runs on one hit and two errors. Michael Johnson, who went 2-for-4 on the day, singled to right and eventually scored on a fly ball by Kory Vitato. Casey Filkins also plated on another infield error by SF State to make it 6-3.

In the home half of the ninth, the Warriors mounded a rally off relievers Kyle Mastellar and Nic Banaugh.

An Andrew Graves single and a hit-bats-man started the rally. John Canepa then singled through the right-side to score Graves.

With the heart of the order coming up for the Warriors, SFSU brought in Banaugh to close out the game. Banaugh struck out David Contreras, who has been sizzling of late, before walking the bases loaded on four pitches to Johnson. Banaugh, however, got Filkins to look at called-third strike on a pitch off the outside part of the plate to end the game.

CSUS starter Pacchetti was chased after 3 1/3 innings of work and was tagged with the loss. Leonard Giammanco and Phillip Quade finished off the game on the mound.

For SFSU, Spencer Kreisberg threw seven innings and gave up just three runs -- one earned -- on five hits to improve to 2-4. Banaugh got the save for the Gators.

The series now shifts to San Francisco with two games on Friday beginning at Noon at Maloney Field. The Warriors will likely face CCAA pitcher of the week Patrick Haugen in game one.
