HAYWARD — In dominating fashion, the Cal State Stanislaus softball team completed the four-game series sweep of Cal State East Bay with two more wins on Saturday.
The Warriors suddenly found offensive power as five different players hit home runs in the twinbill to win 8-2 in game one and 8-0 in the finale.
The Warriors, 13-28-1 overall and 8-20 in the CCAA, are winners of four straight games and have just posted a 5-1 week, including a split at No. 12 Sonoma State on Tuesday.
Cal State East Bay falls to 12-28 overall and 5-23 in its first season in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Erica McIntyre,
Jennifer Arnold and
Brittany Balanesi all homered in game one to complement freshman pitcher
Brittani Weatherford's third straight impressive start as the Warriors had little trouble in the opener.
After
Nikky Rissetto doubled to score
Sarah Locarnini in the third, McIntyre pounded a home run to left to give the Warriors a 3-0 lead. Arnold then led off the fourth with her team-leading sixth homer of the year.
In the sixth inning,
Veronica Luna doubled in
Missy Corral and later scored on a two-run bomb by Balanesi to left-center field. Corral then plated the team's final run in the seventh on a double to right to score McIntyre.
Weatheford went the distance and gave up two runs on five hits. She struck out five and walked three to earn her third win this week.
In game two,
Cassandra Carlos led off the third with a solo shot and two more Warriors scored later in the inning to give Stanislaus a 3-0 advantage.
Rissetto then highlighted a five-run Warrior seventh inning with a three-run home run to right-center as part of an explosive inning. Carlos led off with a double, then Locarnini reached on an error just ahead of Rissetto's homer. McIntyre followed with a triple, and after a Arnold single, a two-RBI single by pinch-hitter
Ashton Brown capped off the Warrior rally.
Arnold got the win in the circle in the nightcap with an untouchable performance. She allowed just three Pioneer singles in seven innings and struck out four for her second win of the week.
On the day, the Warriors' offense had 19 hits with five home runs, five doubles and a triple and scored 16 runs.
The Warriors will host their final series of the season next weekend when Humboldt State (22-21, 11-13) visits. Friday's doubleheader at Warrior Softball Field is at 1 p.m.
