POMONA -- Vinny Pacchetti and Leonard Giammanco combined for a four-hit shutout as the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors baseball team edged Cal Poly Pomona, 1-0, Friday afternoon.

In a low-scoring affair, the Warriors managed to score the game's only run in the sixth to win the California Collegiate Athletic Association series opener.

With the conference's second-best pitching staff, the Warriors have now recorded two straight shutouts to improve to 20-22 overall and 16-17 in the CCAA. Including last Sunday's 5-0 seven-inning nightcap win and three late innings in the opener, the Warriors have not allowed a run in the last 19 innings.

In the Stanislaus sixth, with two outs, Casey Filkins reached base on a walk. Andrew Graves then followed with a sinking pop fly to center field for a single. But CPP's Travis Taijeron bobbled the ball while trying to get a handle. Filkins scored from third and Graves reached second on the single with a one-base error.

CSUS starter Pacchetti pitched the first five innings and allowed four hits. He struck out six and walked four. Giammanco pitched four hitless innings to close out the contest for his third save. Together, the two pitchers stranded 11 Pomona runners on base, including the bases loaded in the third.

Pacchetti also got out of a jam in the fourth with two Broncos on base and one out.

Cal Poly Pomona (22-24, 14-19 CCAA) was led by Erik Riedel who had two hits.

The two teams will play a doubleheader tomorrow starting at noon.
