HAYWARD — Cal State East Bay hurler A.J. Gallardo threw a complete game against the Warriors before Cal State Stanislaus scratch across enough runs in the second game as the teams split a doubleheader in Hayward on Sunday.

Gallardo, who beat No. UC San Diego in La Jolla last week, limited the Warriors to one run on five hits in a 5-1 Pioneer win in game one. Then, in the second game, the Warriors scored three times in the fourth inning and that was enough for a 3-1 win for the split.

Cal State Stanislaus, which swept East Bay on Saturday, wins the series three-games-to-one and improved to 10-2 overall and 4-2 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.

The Warriors scored all three of their runs in game two in the fourth inning and that proved to be all they needed. Zach Cadet led off the frame with a double, followed by a bunt single by John Canepa. With one out, DJ Arellano laid down a squeeze play that scored Zadet. Finally, after Ross Gonsalves walked, Kory Vitato doubled in two runs to cap the rally.

That was all starter Chris Short needed as the lefty gave up just one run on four hits in five innings of work. Short, the team's fourth starter, picked up his second win on the season and he will have the bullpen to thank. Michael Johnson came in and pitched three scoreless innings where he gave up just three hits. Leonard Giammanco, who earned his second save, gave up a walk in the ninth but was able to close it out.

Canepa ended up with three hits in the game while Arellano went 2-for-4.

In the first game, the Warriors were limited to just five hits by CSUEB starter Gallardo. Gallardo gave up just one run in the complete game victory. He struck out six and walked one. Gallardo was the winning pitcher in the Pioneer's upset over top-ranked UC San Diego on the road last week.

Arellano also collected two hits in the first game. He drove in a score with a single to center that scored Cadet, who had doubled with two outs in the second inning.

Vinny Pacchetti was tagged with the loss. He gave up four runs on six hits in 2 2/3 innings. After Chris Anklam pitched the third and fourth innings, Ryan Vander Tuig threw four stellar innings where he gave up just two hits.

Andrew Woolfe went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs to lead CSU East Bay. He had one of the Pioneers' six singles in their four-run third inning.
