Warriors drop two one-run games

4/16/2011 8:26:50 PM

La Jolla - Depsite once again getting great pitching performances, the Cal State Stanislaus baseball team was unable to come up any offensive help as they were swept by UC San Diego in a doubleheader, both by scores of 2-1.  With the losses, the Warriors have now lost their last six games and will have to look to turn the tide Sunday as the two teams will finish the series with a single game begginning at 11:00 am.

In game one Warrior starter Vinny Pacchetti took the hard luck loss despite going 8.1 innings and allowing just one earned run.  In his last three starts he has thrown 24 innings allowing just one earned run, but netting just one victory.

With the score tied at one and a batter retired in the ninth, the Warrior defense had couple lapses allowing the Tritons to end the game and spoil the second consecutive quality start from the pitching staff.  A misplay at first allowed Nick La Face to reach base.  Then Aaron Bauman lifted a ball to the outfield that was dropped, and all of the sudden the Tritons had runners at second and third.  After an intentional walk, the winning run was scored on a wild pitch.

The Warriors out hit the Tritions, 8 to 4, but committed four errors and stranded eight runners on base.  Zach Cadet and Fred Atkins had two hits a piece.

In game two it was more of the same as Chris Short gave the Warriors a quality start and a chance for the offense to come through.  Short went 5.1 innings (7inning game), allowing just two earned runs, while striking out three.

However, Warriors were able to get just six hits off of three Triton pitchers and despite have a few different scoring chances, could not get the big hit in a big moment.
