Baseball takes two games from San Francisco State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SAN FRANCISCO — Warrior ace Jordan Kron returned to the mound and Aldo Koutsoyanopulos is back to form.

After missing games due to an injury to start the year, Koutsoyanopulos appears to be back on track with his swings as he delivered the eventual game-winning run to help Stanislaus State complete a Saturday doubleheader at San Francisco State.

Koutsoyanopulos went 2-for-5 in the nightcap, including a solo homerun in the sixth, as the Warriors beat the Gators 6-4 in 10 innings. Behind the return of pitching ace Kron, the Warriors shut-down the Gators in the opener en route to a 9-2 win.

Oh, and true freshman slugger Jack Large had five hits and drove in five runs in the twinbill.

Stan State improved to 14-7 overall and 4-6 in the CCAA in a cluster between second and fourth place in the North Division. SF State is now 3-15, 1-9.

In game two, Stanislaus closer Nick Voumard blew a save opportunity by allowing three SF State runs in the bottom of the ninth as the Gators forced extra baseball. In the top of the 10th, the Warriors loaded the bags with three free passes. First Kyle Nixon reached on an error, then it was a walk to Large. After a successful sac bunt by Adam Nascimento, SF State intentionally walked Gino Franceschetti to face Koutsoyanopulos.

Koutsoyanopulos, who had already homered in the sixth, singled to right-center to score Nixon for the go-ahead run. Nick Ippolito would draw another walk to force in pinch-runner Nikko Delgado to make it 6-4.

After Voumard gives up a double in the home half of the 10th, Jarret Veiga came in to get a fly-out and two strikeouts for a save to preserve the victory.

In the opener, Kron made his first appearance since Feb. 12 and it was a solid outing. Kron gave up just six hits and a run in seven innings of work with four strikeouts to finally earned his third win.

At the plate, Large went 3-for-5 with a double and drove in three scores in game one before he collected two hits in the nightcap. Ethan Utler and Nixon each also had two hits in the first game.

These same two teams will play another doubleheader on Sunday to wrap-up the four-game set. First pitch is at Noon.
