Box Score 2 LOS ANGELES —
Jordan Kron threw seven shutout innings and the Warriors scored twice in an inning as Stanislaus State opened the three-game series with a 2-0 win over Cal State L.A. on Saturday. The Warriors also won the nightcap, 8-3, in a offensive game to complete the twinbill sweep.
A leadoff walk in the fourth inning, two doubles and a groundout resulted in a two-run frame for Stan State's game one win. The Warriors out-hit and out-scored the Golden Eagles to win game two as the Warriors extend their winning streak to six games and improved to 26-14 overall and more importantly 16-13 in the CCAA North. The Warriors move into a tie for third place in the North and are just 1 1/2 games behind second place Cal State Monterey Bay.
In game one,
Nathan Chunn's groundout scored
Aldo Koutsoyanopulos, who drew a leadoff walk and moved over to third on a
Charlie Gaff double.
Adam Nascimento also doubled with one out to score Gaff to make it 2-0.
That was all Kron needed in yet another outstanding start. In all, Kron threw seven innings and gave up just three singles. He sat down nine of 10 batters in the first three innings and did not face more than four batters in any one inning until the seventh. Kron improved to 6-2 on the season and is already two wins shy of matching his 2016 total despite missing three starts.
In the LA seventh, the Golden Eagles worked the bases loaded after an error, a single and a walk. But Kron got a strikeout and a line-out to end the threat with the bases loaded.
Jarrett Veiga threw an one-hit eighth and
Nick Voumard closed out the game in the ninth with a strikeout to record his 11th save. Voumard is third in NCAA Division II in saves this season, behind only Zach Mozingo (Mount Olive) and Bryan Blanton (Catawba), each with 12 entering the weekend.
Nick Ippolito and Koutsoyanopulos each finished with two hits in game one.
In the nightcap, a three-run third inning gave Stanislaus a 5-2 lead it never relinquish.
Cody Kruip picked up the win after five innings of work.
Gino Franceschetti went 3-for-4 and
Kert Woods drove in three runs to lead the Warriors' offense.
Kyle Nixon,
Jack Large and Woods each had two hits.
